CA CA - Palm Desert, WhtFem 600UFCA, 20-25, in ravine off Hwy 74, Feb'80

There is not much information on either the MP or the UP but I submitted a possible match to all agencies involved and it was largely based on the appearance, location and the fact the missing person is classified as "voluntary missing". There is a discrepancy in the hair color but I don't consider that a big issue for women especially when describing brown vs light brown to dirty blond. Also worth noting that some women are considered to have dirty blond hair but when it is cut short it appears darker because the sun lightened color is gone. I scanned the face using various color levels and curves and desaturated the image of the missing person. I found a raised round facial node on the R side nostril of both the UP and the MP that is consistent with a mole but in this case could be a nose-piercing stud ball.

I know her hair and eye color are off (red/green instead of light brown/hazel), but there is something about Marilyn Denise Waltz that reminds me of this UID --

If everything else matches and the circumstances of Marilyn's disappearance don't imply that she was killed or something, the gap doesn't really matter. Maybe she ran off with a man who eventually killed her, or something.

I think it's unlikely that she was killed by a stranger since she was found fully clothed. It's possible the motive was robbery (her handbag was missing along with any jewellery she might have been wearing) but the fact she was dumped off a desert mountain road suggest to me her killer wanted to delay the finding of her body, either until it was unrecognisable or until he himself was well clear of the area.

But the fact she was found clothed and there's no mention of sexual assault suggests a husband or boyfriend to me.

I wonder if there was any sign of an indentation on her ring finger that might have suggested a wedding ring that had been removed.

I just got done creating a new NamUs MP listing for a woman named Janet Gyles-Wells (DOB 07-Aug-1941), last seen around 1980 in Riverside County. A facebook friend of mine alerted me to a facebook post made by Janet's sister, talking about how she hasn't heard from Janet since about 1980. I sent the sister a message, and she agreed to provide the info for the NamUs MP casefile.
Janet seems to be a very plausible possible for this Palm Desert Jane Doe.

The photo on the left is a college photo taken in Oklahoma in 1961, but it provides a good look at her teeth. The photo on the right is more contemporary to her disappearance.

Yes I see this around the eyes and eyebrows too. This totally looks like the same woman. Amazing work.

After I created the NamUs page for Janet, a Riverside County detective located Janet alive in Texas. Janet's sister has not yet been in contact with her, but the detective gave Janet her family's contact info, and she can contact them if she wishes to. I hope she does. Her family misses her.

What about Diana Rohbeck? I can't find much info or any photos of her other than she dissapeared in 1978 from Florida. aged 22 and was a similar height to this jane doe.
