I live across the river from Steubenville, Ohio (in Weirton, WV) and today is the first I've heard of Kayla Schroeder. A friend on Facebook 'liked' the 'Please help Find Kayla Schroeder', which is how I heard. I've NEVER heard her mentioned on the local news...sad. Of course the Steubenville news focuses on the 'great' work of the local police department (the same police department that surrounded an Amish school with a swat team), but seems like both dropped the ball on this story.
I'm sooo tired, I don't know what to do...

Can anyone tell me why the local LE won't investigate and why the local news won't cover this story? Apparently she was a dancer, but that is no excuse for them to drop the ball. This story should be receiving more publicity.

I cannot directly answer your question because I do not know the answer. What I'm wondering is how proactive her family and friends are in the search? My mother used to have a saying about the squeaky wheel receiving the most grease.....

How has this not gotten any press? So frustrating.

It hasn't received press because our local news is horrible. They work hand-in-hand with the local police, only reporting on what LE tells them to...sometimes to the point of creating stories to make the local LE look like they are doing a great job combating crime (when in reality there never was a high crime rate in the area). When faced with a REAL story, the Steubenville news runs the other way...no investigative reports...ever. It's really sad because if they had put this story out there in the beginning, Kayla may be home instead of still missing.

I sent a message to a reporter at the TV station asking them why they weren't covering it and was told that there was no story because they believed she left on her own (how did they know that?). I think they refused to cover the story because #1, she was a 'dancer' and #2, local LE told them not to cover it (because of reason #1).

And just so you all know, WTRF is located in Wheeling, WV. WTOV - News 9 is in Steubenville, OH. WTRF did cover the story when it happened, but the local news, WTOV, would not touch it until much later.
