So mother and baby are both missing....so sad. Wonder who reported them missing? Curious about what makes LE feel this case is suspicious....

ETA: Just read the above post's link....mother was last seen by "witnesses" getting in her vehicle and leaving. She has not been seen since.

Snelling homicide, missing Planada woman and baby being jointly investigated by sheriff's office

The Merced Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Division said it continued its investigation through Thursday night in the homicide of a person burned beyond recognition near Snelling.

In an ominous twist, as officers were conducting that investigation, the sheriff’s Patrol Division took a missing person’s report in the 1500 block of Plainsburg Road in Planada.

Missing are Ana Lila Diaz DeCeja, 26, and her infant son, Anthony Ceja-Diaz, two months old.

    [snip]

Positive identification hasn’t been made on the body found near Snelling, and an autopsy is still pending. The Sheriff’s Office said it’s conducting a parallel investigation into both the missing person’s case and the homicide. No further details will be released on either case, at least for awhile, to protect the integrity of both investigations.

DeCeja, 26, and her two-month-old son, Anthony, were reported missing on Thursday morning, several hours after deputies were called out to an almond orchard in Snelling where workers found a badly burned body.

Investigators are hoping that the results of an autopsy will help shed more light on both cases.

although it is unconfirmed, there is also a possibility that the baby boy who was discovered left on a doorstop of a home in Le Grand on Tuesday is Deceja's missing child.

Couple may have tried to sell baby boy in Merced

Detectives now say a couple tried to sell an infant to someone in Merced last Friday.

Action News has learned deputies found two month old Anthony Ceja Diaz's car seat near a creek in the same area.

    [snip]

Deputy Tom MacKenzie says the person who reported the strange encounter clearly described the car seat the baby was in. It matched the car seat two month old Anthony Ceja Diaz was in the day he and his mother, Ana Ceja Diaz disappeared from their Planada home. It's also the same car seat a couple spotted as they walked along Bear Creek near Parsons in Merced late Friday afternoon. Authorities took the car seat into evidence, but did not release that detail to protect the investigation.

    [snip]

The man is described as 5'7 to 5'8 with a thin build. He's in his early to mid 40's and has brown hair and a full beard. The female is described as a heavy set woman with brown hair.

Anyone with information should call the Merced County Sheriff's Office.
