TN TN - Arlington, WhtMale 20-60, UP10153, 'Blue Moon' baseball cap, Dec'10

The scene is near the area where Austin Agee dumped the body of Bartlett model Lisa Davis in March of 2009. It is also in the vicinity where Thomas Pate of Bartlett confessed to dumping his wife's body near the Loosahatchie River in May of 2009.

Investigators could not say how long the remains have been there, or if the investigation has been deemed suspicious.

There's a bit more information on this UID:

The remains are those of a male, age 30-70, and have been there for 12-18 months.

Source: Memphis Commercial Appeal.

It'd be a stretch if this was Steven Koecher, but I called in the tip anyway. Age, gender and time are a match, anyway.

That narrows it down a little bit, but not much (Male - Age 30-70 - Missing 12-18 months prior, Unknown race, unknown height/weight, no clothing description).

Walter Stevenson fits the broad description, although the parameters are not specific enough to be very sure.

Carl, can you enlighten us on why they would use a range like 30-70? they did not say how much of the skeleton was found but I would think a 70 y.o. would have some serious degeneration issues such as possible arthritic spine, osteoporosis, etc.

I've seen much more narrow estimates in other cases, I don't know why it's so wide in this case. It could be that all the teeth were missing, giving them one less means by which to make an estimate.

Not that I am an expert in this, but degeneration can happen to people who are in the low end of that range, so you can't estimate age very narrowly based on degeneration alone. The one thing that I know about with regard to estimating ages over 30 is the fusion of the cranial sutures. The zigzagged joints that you see on the top of a skull eventually disappear in the later years, but I don't know how narrowly you can peg an estimate based analysis of these sutures.

The 12-18 months range is intriguing; if it's based on when the field was last worked, then Ted Aya-ay's out. Stevenson's still in.

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Detectives with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office said Thursday they need help identifying human remains.

Investigators said an off-duty Shelby County Sheriff's deputy and a friend were hunting on December 4 when they found the remains in a wooded area.

"They were moving a duck blind when they stumbled upon what appeared to be human remains," said Shelby County Sheriff's Office spokesman Chip Washington. "They found a skull and some scattered bones."

Remains appear to be those of a male between 30-70 and at this location approximately 12-18 months.

The man’s race is uncertain, officials said.
The man was wearing a hat that said “Blue Moon” on the front. He was also wearing plaid boxer shorts, a leather belt with a silver buckle and white “Athletic Works” low top, lace-up sneakers, all of which were found at the scene.

This decayed baseball hat was found with human remains on Dec. 4 in a wooded area on Stewart Road near Palomino Road.

This is what the hat looked like originally, with a Blue Moon logo.

The shoes and the hat don't look like they would be worn by a 60 or 70 yr old. I would think it would skew the age range down towards the 30 and 40 end, imo.

I have to respectfully disagree. I see many older men wear baseball style caps to protect themselves from the sun. Especially those who spend a great deal of time outdoors.

The hat's logo is that of Blue Moon Brewing Company: http://www.bluemoonbrewingcompany.com/

I can't get their online store's site to open so I can't tell if the hats are sold online, but I imagine they could also have been given away at bars, at beer-tasting events and whatnot. It might be worthwhile for LE to ask local beer warehouses if they held any recent events where those hats were given away.

My brother Jonathan Kerr went missing around Memphis in mid March 2008. I was wanting to know if anyone knows the size of the men's shoes that were found with the UI man's remains.

Jonathan was 32 at the time of his disappearance. We are certain he did not live much longer past that time. He was unable to take care of himself and was easily provoked and able to be taken advantage of. The police contacted us for dental records, but we had none. The dentist had purged them. My parents were DNA profiled in 2009. Yet it has been almost a year and we still have no word if the missing man was my bro.

Does anyone have any info?

I actually suggest Walter Stevenson as a match in 2014 (long before seeing this thread) but have not heard back from anyone. Has someone on here contacted the Regional Coordinator or LE already?

(Do they usually not contact you back if it's not a match? Or even if it is?!)
