This is a program that I just found out about. Anyone who is considering adopting a dog, might want to look into this.

All our Military Working Dogs are trained at Lackland Air Force Base and then sent to operational units throughout the Department of Defense. The adoption law gives priority first to civilian law enforcement agencies, then to current/prior military working dog handlers, and finally to the general public.

While we do not charge a fee for the adoption, you are responsible for transportation from Lackland Air Force Base or the dog’s unit of assignment to your home.

Its a great program and I do believe the ones deemed not adoptable will be able to live out their lives on the base:)
So different from the Viet Nam era military working dogs.
