Culture also affects communication by influencing the recipients' assumptions. Our minds try to twist incoming information to make it fit in our worldview. Since different cultures have very different worldviews, cross-cultural communication is especially likely to change meaning between sender and receiver, as the sender may have a very different worldview from the receiver.

I am posting this because MM was underage when she went missing and because some of the people involved in this recent arrest are academics.

Thinking of the Makhniashvili family this holiday season, and wishing them joy and peace, but most of all, some answers about Mariam.

Thinking of Mariam today while I figure out what to pick up for my own children for Christmas.

To Mariam's family, please know that your beautiful daughter has been and will continue to be in the prayers of so many who have never had the privilege of meeting her. Getting answers soon, would be my gift to you.

Please find a way back to them Mariam.

The location of Stayner and Marlee is SO close to where Mariam lives and went to school. I hope this guy gets nabbed soon and questioned about other abductions and Mariam.

    FRANCIS CRESCIA/TOWN CRIER FILE
HOLDING OUT HOPE: Mariam Makhniashvili’s mother Lela Tabidze is hoping public attention on her family’s troubles, including the arrest of her husband Vakhtang, re-focuses on the search for her daughter, who has been missing since vanishing on her way to school in September 2009. There likely wasn’t a great deal of merriment at the Makhniashvili household this past holiday season.

In addition to the continuing mystery of teenager Mariam Makhniashvili’s disappearance, her father, 50-year-old Vakhtang Makhniashvili will remain in prison for the foreseeable future

The article says that VM is held at Toronto East Detention Centre. Last thing I know, he was in Toronto West Detention Centre.

    We’ve all read their stories.

There’s Ani Ashekian, Mariam Makhniashvili, Nicole Vienneau, Poonam Litt, Christina Calayca… and many more. Ordinary people, like you and me, who have vanished without a trace, without any definitive answers.

Some have been missing for a few months, others for a few years; some have gone missing from their homes, others while they were travelling abroad. But there’s one thing common in such cases: Their families haven’t given up.

Checking the Georgian newspaper for items related to MM,I found this article, which displays an attitude towards women, that may have some bearing on MM's disappearance...
    http://www.geotimes.ge/index.php?m=home&newsid=23535
Russian Patriarchate Calls on Russian Women to Restrain from Provoking Caucasian Men
The Russian Patriarchate calls on Russian women to restrain from provoking Caucasian men, news agency Newsland says .
‘A Russian woman, wearing mini dress, can provoke Caucasian men and even Russians. And if the woman is drunk and is trying to make contact with a man, it ends up with a violence', a spokesman for the Patriarchate says.
‘The appearance of our women is a serious topic and needs appropriate consideration', he added.
