SC SC - St Matthews, HispFem 25-40, 719UFSC, 'Maria' on bracelet, nightshirt "Beary Heavenly", Sep'08

I hope they figure out who this is quickly! It is amazing to me that bones are just laying all over the U.S.--just waiting to be found. Mindboggling to say the least!

I did a search on missing persons in South Carolina and these are the two I came up with closest to Calhoun county. I am sure there are more so I will search more but these are the two that popped right up. They disappeared from other counties but they were near enough to Calhoun to consider.

or this one maybe???

There is just nothing really to go on in the article. There is not an age, gender, or race. I would like to know more.

It is horrifying that bones are being found with no idea as to who they are. Everyone deserves an identity and a proper burial!

I will just keep watching this thread.

I know, very frustrating!!! Is it male/female? Age? How old are the bones?Etc...so many unanswered questions and extremely frustrating.

I will wait to do any searching for this myself until we have more specifics on what/who was found. it doesn't really make sense to start speculating now - it could be anyone.

ST. MATTHEWS - The Jane Doe found in Calhoun County two years ago has been given a tentative name -- "Maria."

An updated facial reconstruction of the skeletal remains found in a remote wooded area in Calhoun County was released Monday.

[...]

A leather bracelet bearing the name of Maria was found with the remains when they were discovered. Authorities can't be certain yet if the name refers to the victim or a loved one.

The bracelet letters are English but officials are leaning toward the victim being a 25- to 40-year-old Hispanic female.

Not sure if this is appropriate and am not at all trying to incriminate anyone, but coincidentally there was a young man that went missing for about a week at the end of September 2008-early October at Clemson.

Maria is spelled the same way in English and Spanish. Not sure why they said what they did.

below the age range of the UID but this Hispanic female disappeared in SC in 2007, Viridiana Maldonado.

nothing to reference Maria, but in some of the web stories I read about her, someone tried to throw the family off track by sending a text message that she was planning to return to Mexico, despite the fact she never sent text messages before.

Deputies say the skeleton was found Saturday in the woods in the northwest portion of the county. Sheriff Thomas Summers refuses to specify an exact location.

"According to some of the things that we can't disclose at this point due to the investigation, we're treating it as a homicide. So, yeah, in my opinion there is a crime that occurred there," Summers said.

The remains found are those of a female, possibly between 30 and 50 years of age, about 5'3" to 5'7" tall. Summers says the woman might have had blonde hair. He says investigators found "very little" clothing and not enough to help identify the victim.

New information in the case was released Monday, including an updated facial reconstruction and a possible name: Maria.

"The experts analyzed and measured the skull and compared it to Caucasian, African-American and Hispanic females. They determined that the cranium is the most similar to the Hispanic populations," Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers said Monday. "Based on this new information, an updated facial reconstruction has been created."

The woman's skeletal remains were found in a remote area of western Calhoun County on Sept. 27, 2008.

Investigators have previously said the woman was wearing a black cotton night gown with a teddy bear design featuring the words, "Beary Heavenly."

Viridana Maldonaldo may be a good candidate. Charleston and Calhoun County are only an hour and fifteen minutes away from each other tops.
