    TX - McAllen, Fem Infant (UP 9651), Left in Phoenix AZ Clothing Donation Bin, Dec'10

    <snip>

    Texas authorities told The Arizona Republic that a truck carrying used clothing from Phoenix to McAllen arrived at a warehouse Wednesday evening.

    The truck's trailer was unloaded the next day by employees at the warehouse. As they were sorting through boxes of used clothes, employees say they found the remains of the baby inside a cardboard box, stuffed between garments.

    Police said the box was shipped within the last 24 hours and that the umbilical cord was still attached to the body. Authorities wouldn’t comment on how old the baby was or the condition of the body. An autopsy has been ordered.

    What we are doing is just a drop in the ocean.
    But if that drop was not in the ocean,
    I think the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.

    About 10 businesses rent space in the warehouse, said Mario Chicas, a renter who was unaware of what had occurred when he arrived to find officers at the scene.

    Police investigators were unsure of the child’s age or whether she was born alive, Morales said. All they could divulge was that the girl’s umbilical cord was still attached.

    There might be some answers later today

    <snip>

    The coroner is performing an autopsy and will try to determine how and when the baby died, how old the baby was and if it was alive when it was born.

    'Baby Jane' Left in Clothes Donation Bin

    Updated: Friday, 17 Dec 2010, 9:37 PM MST
    Published : Friday, 17 Dec 2010, 9:37 PM MST

    PHOENIX - Phoenix Police believe 'Baby Jane,' an unidentified baby girl whose body was found in a shipping box in Texas on Thursday, was left in a clothes donation bin in the valley.

    The baby's body was apparently wrapped in a towel, put in a box, and left in a clothing donation bin -- there are 400 donations bins scattered across the valley.
    .....................
    Police believe this box was picked up between December 8 and 12 at one of these drop sites. They say the box was then packed into a semi truck and took off for McAllen, Texas on December 13. The delivery arrived in McAllen on December 15.

    Wonder if the person who did this knew the donations went to Texas? I also wonder how this drop site operates. Wonder if they send stuff to states hit the hardest by weather/disasters?

    For some reason due to a couple cases in my own area, it sounds like a young girl and instead of a dumpster, she used a drop box for donations.

    I feel almost ill reading this...

    What IF the person thought the child would be found and cared for, a bit like a newer version of leaving a baby wrapped in a box and leaving the child at the doorstep of an orphanage/unknown person ???

    What IF they had NO idea this would be the result??? Oh my stars, this is horrific! That poor, precious little baby...think of the joy that little treasure would have brought to some family that can't have children. Both my two munchkins are adopted, so I know well the ache that lives in the hearts of families that deal with infertility.

    So, so sad...

    This article contains a photo of the warehouse where the donated clothing is sorted. It also says the trucking company could have picked up the donated clothes from among 400 locations.

    http://www.kpho.com/news/26170643/detail.html

    I think LE should publish photos of the clothing items found around the baby's body. Who knows, someone could recognize the clothes as something he/she recently donated (and then the baby's mother put the baby in with them later) and then they'd have a location. I used to work at a thrift store and some locations even keep a camera trained on their donation area to discourage people from stealing donations, dropping off stuff after hours that's going to get vandalized or ruined by rain and from dumping household trash. The mother may be on film. Alternately, if the mother dropped off the box of clothes herself, a family member who'd already been suspicious she was pregnant might recognize the clothes.

    Phoenix police detectives say they know the box with the dead baby inside was collected between Dec. 8 and 12 somewhere in west Phoenix.

    The owner of a used clothing factory says she has some ideas of how a baby could have ended up in the box. She said it happened to her.

    Thousands of pieces of clothes come through this ropas usadas, or used clothing factory, every day.

    “I sold a trailer load a few years ago, and they had a fetus in the bag,” says the woman.

    This infant is still unidentified and it sounds like it will stay that way as they don't have a DNA sample available. It's a white female with dark brown hair.
