PEORIA, AZ - Police are asking for the public's help to locate a woman who went missing after dropping off her adult son in Peoria Wednesday morning.

Peoria Police Department spokesman Mike Tellef said 50-year-old Maria Delores Chagolla was last seen around 9 a.m. Wednesday near 83rd Avenue and Butler Drive.

Tellef said Chagolla has not been heard from since that time and family members are very worried, telling police it is unusual for her not to return home as she is the caregiver for a 7-year-old girl.

Chagolla is described as a Hispanic woman, 4 feet 10 inches tall, 160 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black sweater with horizontal stripes and black and gray dress pants.

Anyone with information about Chagolla's whereabouts is asked to call the Peoria Police Department at 623-773-8311.

Police released new information Saturday night about what might have happened.

Up until now, investigators have called this a missing person case, noting it was unusual for Dolores Chagolla to disappear, but were unwilling to go past that.

Police now suspect foul play, calling the disappearance suspicious. They said they worry Chagolla is in danger.
...................
Investigators have spent countless hours retracing the last minutes they can account for Chagolla.

"The last person who saw her alive was her son," Burch said.

Her son told investigators Chagolla dropped him off to walk the track at Cotton Boll School near 85th Avenue and Butler Street, then she was supposed to head to her sister's house.

Prayers for your family.

How sad, and especially if it is true that her own son killed her. :(

Rest in peace, Maria. Prayers for her family and friends.

A 33-year-old Peoria man was sentenced to life in prison Friday for murdering his mother and then hiding her body in her vehicle.

Judge Sherry Stephens sentenced Dominic Chagolla in Maricopa County Superior Court.

Chagolla's mother, Maria Dolores Chagolla, 50, was reported missing on Dec. 15, 2010. Her body was found days later, concealed by a blanket in the back seat of her SUV parked near 81st and Glendale avenues. Authorities say she had numerous injuries to the head, including both eyes... Underneath Maria, police said, was a bloodied silver-colored knife that matched knives found in the home she shared with her son.
