Walthall County woman missing
By Therese Apel • firstname.lastname@example.org • December 17, 2010
When Kelly Ann Erwin’s boyfriend returned to their Walthall County home on Dec. 12 after a weekend away, Erwin was nowhere to be found.
The woman was last seen that Friday walking her dog in the area of Copper’s Ford Road in Tylertown by a passer-by on his way home from work, said District 14 District Attorney Dee Bates. He said she was wearing a blue denim jacket and blue jeans.
Bates said Erwin has family in the St. Tammany Parish in Louisiana, and is originally from the Plaquemines Parish. He said she and her boyfriend had property in both St. Tammany Parish and Walthall County.
But still, nobody has heard from her since last weekend, he said.
“She’s just completely off the grid,” he said.
Erwin is described as blonde with green eyes, around 5 feet, 5 inches tall, and weighing around 108 pounds. Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to call the Walthall County Sheriff’s Department at (601) 876-3481.

Sheriff Duane Dillon said a group of men crossing the Lee Chapel Road bridge on four-wheelers found Erwin’s body, and one of the men notified authorities, he said.
“They were out checking a deer stand when they saw it,” Dillon said. “The body was in a location that if you were passing by in a car and looked down, you wouldn’t see it, but you could see it if you were on foot or on a four-wheeler.”
Dillon said Erwin’s body was face down in the stream in about three feet of water on the south side of the bridge.
Walthall sheriff’s de-puties blocked the eastern side of the bridge with crime scene tape, and they blocked the western end of Lee Chapel Road at its intersection with Hobgood Road.
Dillon said an initial examination of the scene did not indicate a cause of death.
Officials could not specify any wounds because of the condition of the body. Authorities are waiting on results from an autopsy and from evidence collected by the Mississippi State Crime Lab. Crime lab technicians arrived at the scene late Wednesday afternoon.

A preliminary autopsy report says a woman whose body was found last week in a Walthall County stream died of drowning, but authorities are treating the case as a homicide, Sheriff Duane Dillon said Tuesday.
Dillon said he is awaiting toxicology reports on the victim, Kelly Ann Erwin, 44.
“Although the cause of death is listed as drowning, we’re going stay on the safe side and investigate this as a homicide at this time,” he said.
