Here's a case with a facial reconstruction that I had not seen before. I just spotted it in NamUs.

NamUs UP Case 8314 https://identifyus.org/cases/8314

Unidentified White Female
* Found March 10, 1985 North of Upham exit, off I-25 in Rural Doña Ana County, NM

Vital Statistics
* Estimated age: 16 to 19 years old
* Approximate Height: Unknown
* Distinguishing Characteristics: Light brown/Blonde hair - Blonde Pubic Hair - 2 painted pink finger nails - possible healed basal fracture, non-specific porosity found on posterior pareitals and upper occipital, 2-3rd lumbar showed 'dished' or 'wasted' which is noted in the anthro report to be unusual for a person so young.
* Dentals: Available but not yet entered
* Clothing/Jewelry: pink bra w/2 snaps present, pink panties, sweatshirt w/'Wilson' sporting goods name, 2 underwire bra supports, thought to have come out of the bra
* DNA: Available, Not yet submitted.

Case History
3 men hunting, came across skeletal remains off of County Rd E73. This road was known to be frequentted and travelled by ranchers, hunters, that led to Hatch NM. The remains were found covered/buried by thin black plastic, with bones scattered in the same area.

Jeanne Geneva Overstreet fits reasonably close to the description.

Her age (19) is consistent. Blonde/Brown Hair. Her facial features and shape look pretty close IMO.

She disappeared from Tucson AZ (about 275 miles from where the remains were found), about 2 1/2 years prior. It is not clear how decomposed the remains were. There was still head and pubic hair remaining, but the remains were covered by plastic, presumably protecting them from the elements.

I wish there was a height estimate to be a little more certain. With full skeletal remains, one would think that they would have been able to estimate her height.

looks good Carl. I'd submit it.

a "possible" healed skull fracture. The ME is uncertain?

Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis mainly occurs in patients over 60-- very uncommon in a young person and would most likely cause significant discomfort, which would probably be noticed by friends and family of the victim.

If her DLC was a few months prior, I'd say she was Valentine Sally.

You don't suppose there might be a mistake in her DLC (a la Paula Beverly Davis or Samantha Bonnell) do you?

ETA: I don't think the body was decomposed enough that the "Free Bird" tattoo would not have been noticed.

ETA2: According to DoeNet, her DNA is in CODIS. Rule out by default.

I just sent an e-mail to Wendy Honeyfield of the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque regarding Jeanne Overstreet as a possible match to the Doña Ana Jane Doe

Here's a few possibilities that I found from neighboring states... I know the age is off on a bit on some, but it seems like there are a lot of cases where they end up identifying someone who's age is quite a bit off from the estimate... Some are a bit far away geographically, but I was reminded of that poor woman who was kidnapped in TX last week and forced to drive for like 9 hours into NM before they let her go...

Mindi Chambers seems like a very strong candidate, given the circumstances surrounding her disappearance...

Here's an interesting twist in Mindi's case that I found:

http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2009/07/26/20090726chambers0726.html

They don't explain how, but they somehow believe it's plausible that her body could have ended up in Houston, TX. NM is a heckuva lot closer to Mesa than Houston.
I can't find any update to this story, nor any link to the reconstruction that they say looks like Mindi. Mesa PD does not have Mindi on their MP page--- I guess I would like more specifics on why they think this case is closed-- esp since she is still listed as missing by all the major outlets: NCMEC, Project Jason, Charley, Doe etc...

It's strange that you mention her. Someone else just PM'd me, mentioning MC as a possible match.

However, there's a UID in Texas that they are pretty sure is Mindi Chambers, but they are unable to prove it because they can't come up with any identifiers for Mindi.

http://doenetwork.org/cases/72uftx.html

Even if the TX girl is not Mindi, they wouldn't be able to prove this one was Mindi for the same reason. No identifiers available.

Wonder if Mindi had any siblings or living relatives to retrieve DNA... It would be nice if LE would sleuth a little bit to see.. :)

They need a maternal relative. Her mother died when she was very young. There are a couple of paternal relatives, but that's no help for mtDNA testing.

I did know that her mother died and the need the DNA from her side. Wonder if Mindi's mother has any sister that are alive? Just a thought...

There are no known living maternal relatives. I was thinking that they could exhume the mother's remains, but I don't know if they are unable to do that (perhaps she was cremated), or perhaps they are just unwilling due to the cost.

I just sent an e-mail to Wendy Honeyfield of the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque regarding Jeanne Overstreet as a possible match to the Doña Ana Jane Doe

I received a reply from Wendy Honeyfield:

Carl,

I appreciate the heads up for this case. I have checked, and the DNA abstracted from this Doe, has been entered into CODIS, although, sometimes it takes a reference to compare it. I will contact Agent Parker, FBI here in Albuquerque, and ask her to have the comparisons ran. I have a co-worker, who is in the process of preparing a facial sketch for her, which may help as well. I will keep you posted.

Here is the facial sketch of Doña Ana Doe that Wendy mentioned in her e-mail to me. The image is posted to Doña Ana Doe's NamUs page, but the paper on which the sketch was drawn was wrinkled and creased.

I did some contrast enhancement to the image, and converted it to B&W to minimize the effect of the wrinkles and creases. Here's the side-by-side with Jeanne G Overstreet.

On the clay reconstruction there apprear to be a few small moles or freckles. I wonder if those were actually there or just blemishes on the clay.

Ms. Overstreet seems to have a mole near her nose that is in the same spot as one of the blemishes on the clay reconstruction.

I noticed that too, but since the remains were skeletal, I didn't mention it. But it could be that there was still un-decomposed flesh on the bones considering that they were buried and covered with plastic.
