TX - Rosemary Diaz, 15, Danevang, 24 Nov 1990 - Disappeared while at job

Girl, 15, last seen working at store in 1990

(CNN) -- It is a rite of passage for every teenager: A first job brings new responsibility, greater maturity and even a little spending money.

Rosemary Diaz, 15, was excited about entering the work force as a clerk at Dane's Country Store just down the road from home in Danevang, a one-traffic-light town south of Houston that is known as the Danish capital of Texas.

The small convenience store sold everything from hamburgers to gasoline, and Rosemary was trusted to do the work on her own.

But on the night of November 24, 1990, just weeks into the job, Rosemary was waiting for an older sister, Elia, and newborn niece to visit her at the store, police say.

Rosemary called home at 7:30 p.m. to make sure they were still coming.

Soon afterward, two customers entered the shop, and no clerk was to be found, called police.

From the same article, I thought this was really strange:

"That day, a local man who wore an eye patch and was nicknamed "One-Eyed Joe" had snapped a Polaroid photo of Rosemary, police say.

The picture was found on the store counter. According to Marek, the man was interviewed and cleared, yet the circumstances around the photo remain unclear."

I wish there was more information about this. It must be so hard for her family not knowing anything.

Rosemary Diaz: Still Missing After 22 Years

Twenty-two years, and twenty-two minutes: those are the time periods that figure big in the unsolved missing persons case of Rosemary Diaz.

On November 24, 1990, the 15-year-old El Campo High School honors student simply vanished from her job at a Danevang (Wharton County) convenience store, according to Shannon Crabtree's riveting story in the El Campo Leader-News. To this day, Diaz's family has not abandoned hope that they will find out what happened, and are hoping that anyone who may have seen anything that day might finally provide police with a valid tip.

"Crabtree writes that, on the day Diaz disappeared, "three people in a large yellowish-orange or yellowish-brown 1980 to 1983 Oldsmobile were in the Danevang area between 4:30 and 5 p.m., looking for the Diaz residence....The car never arrived at the house, and the three people -- two women ages 40 to 50 and a man about 20 -- have never been identified."

Now, that's really strange. why so many people looking for the residence? Also, did the convenience store had any cameras?

Possible break in the disappearance of Rosemary Diaz.

Remains Discovered Believed to be that of Missing Teen Rosemary Diaz

Fifteen-year-old Rosemary Diaz went missing 25 years ago Tuesday.

Now authorities say they have reason to believe they may have found her remains.

"We've not positively identified yet, but our investigation would lead us to believe it, " said Wharton County Sheriff's Sgt. Scott Grosser. Investigators say they are excavating in a remote area now on private land close to Highway 71 following new information they received which they've never had before. Grosser wouldn't say specifically what that information was or where it came from.

Officials with the Wharton County Sheriff's Office received information that led them to believe Diaz was buried at a 60-acre location approximately two miles away from where she was last seen.

Equeeseach founder Tim Miller tells KHOU 11 News that he's the one who dug up the remains. He says they found a ring believed to belong to the missing girl, and that is the most crucial link at this time.

Officials and search volunteers plan to hold an 8 a.m. news conference Wednesday to discuss the case.

Whoa ! Prayers for the family. I would imagine they've been on the fence all this time, hoping for a miracle. At least now they will know.

    suspicious family members

"Investigators say the now-deceased suspect was in his early 20s at the time of Diaz's abduction "

    "
The man made "partial confessions" to his family over the years, Grosser said. After his death when the family pieced together perhaps the full story, they reached out to investigators.
    "

I find it highly suspicious that the family "pieced together ... the full story" after the guy died. Also, is this guy the "one eye Joe" who was originally a suspect in the case?

    From the article:

Sheriff’s officials say they have discovered human remains believed to be those of a 15-year-old girl missing for 25 years, after receiving a tip from the family of a man considered a suspect in her death.
It also says in the article man died a few months ago. I sure hope his family didn't sit on this information for years and years just to protect him....

My condolences to her family and even if it isn't her this person is still somone's loss.

If this suspect is dead then why isn't his name being released?

Also, why in hell was a 15-year-old being allowed to work retail at all and then by herself and after dark? That alone, seems almost like child abuse to me or, at the very least, child endangerment. Did her employer know that she was only 15?
This my opinion and to the best of my knowledge, that is, if I'm not joking.

Minors working on retail was still common during the 90's

    MORE INFO FROM PREVIOUS POST:
Remains of Rosemary Diaz found 25 years to the day after 15 year old went missing
WHARTON COUNTY, Texas – Twenty-five years to the day after 15-year-old Rosemary Diaz went missing, investigators in Wharton County say they believe they have found the remains of her body in a shallow grave.

"The main thing is closure for the Diaz family," Sgt. Scott Grosser of the Wharton County Sheriff's Office said at a news conference Wednesday morning. "That's a family that has kept the memory of Rosemary alive for 25 years. They never let her memory die. They never gave up. It's all about bringing Rosemary home now."
Grosser said investigators were led to the location of human remains in a rural area in Matagorda County based on new evidence provided by members of the family who owned the property.

A member of the family who died months ago has been labeled as a suspect; Grosser said the man has made "partial confessions" to various family members through the years. After the man died, other family members began talking and piecing together the 25-year-old crime.
"They weren't sure what they knew," Grosser said. "No one person had the full story."
Investigators say the now-deceased suspect was in his early 20s at the time of Diaz's abduction from Dane's County on Highway 71store late Saturday, Nov. 24, 1990. Diaz worked at the store. Grosser said the suspect had no connection to Diaz and that the crime was likely one of opportunity. Robbery did not appear to be a motive.

Just came here to see if anyone had posted the story of finding her remains. So happy she is finally going home.
Why have we not seen an arrest in the Haily Dunn kidnapping and murder?
Who murdered Hailey Dunn? Justice needs to be served this beautiful girl!
