I'm not quite sure if this should go in the crimes in the news section or the UID forum, I'm absolutely heartbroken after reading that the baby was at first thought to be a doll.

Dead baby was initially mistaken for doll by man who found it in Liverpool trash bin -- Syracuse.com

Liverpool, NY – A man looking inside a large metal trash bin at a Liverpool apartment complex for scrap wood Thursday night at first thought he found a doll someone had tossed away, Liverpool Police Chief William J. Becker said.

Poor little guy. My heart also goes out to the man who found the baby. How tragic.

Rest now, Little One.

MizIz,
I know you will have the safe haven laws in Ny somewhere. We have got to educate people. Would it be too much to hope that countrywide, maternity hospitals distribute a flyer about safe havens upon discharge? I realize it wouldnt have saved this little baby, as he or she was most likely not born in a hospital. Lets plaster signs across cities everthwere. Signs on dumpsters? Do you all think its a lack of education or a lack of care and sanity? Im hoping the former, as we as a society cant educate against heartlessness. Rest now little one, I know you are at peace and in the loving arms of the gentlest one.

NY has safe haven laws, they even include an anonymous birth part, if you go to the hospital, you can be admitted anonymously and after the baby has been born it will immediately be put up for adoption, no questions, no names, no hassle.

First Chief Assistant District Attorney Rick Trunfio said this afternoon that the preliminary autopsy has determined the status of the child when it was placed in the dumpster at the Pearl Street Apartments. However, he would not comment on whether or not authorities can prove the baby was born alive.

Mother charged with murder had history with Child Protective Services

SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - The Onondaga County District Attorney's Office says the 29-year old mother of the baby found in a dumpster, also has a 5-year old child.

They say Nicole DeJaynes has had a history with Child Protective Services, but they could not elaborate any further.

While the D.A.'s office cannot go into specifics as to what led up to the infant's death, Nicole DeJaynes was charged Friday night, after she was unexpectedly released from a medical facility which was supposed to notify police beforehand.

Ever since Greg Prouty heard the news about the dead baby found in a Liverpool trash bin Jan. 6, he’s been worried about his son’s relationship with Nicole DeJaynes.

Liverpool police Friday accused DeJaynes of second-degree murder in the death of the baby found in a trash container behind the Pearl Street Apartments. She is being held without bail in the Onondaga County Justice Center jail.
