(CNN) -- Actresss Nicole Kidman and country music star Keith Urban revealed Monday that they added a daughter to their family last month.

Faith Margaret Kidman Urban is their biological child but she was "born through a gestational carrier" at The Women's Hospital at Centennial in Nashville on December 28, 2010, according to a statement from the couple's publicists.

Kidman found out she was carrying Sunday Rose while she was filming the movie "Australia." She was 40 years old at the time.

In an interview with "Good Morning America" in November 2008, she said doctors had told her she had a 2 percent chance of conceiving a child.

I'm happy for them, but I have to say this is the first time I've heard "gestational carrier".

Sounds like something you could buy in a store or on-line.

I guess it's a way to take the "mother" out of surrogate mother. KWIM.
This way it's more clinical. I guess so anyway.

A gestational carrier is defined as the use of a third party female to provide a uterus to carry a pregnancy until delivery. The embryos are created without any genetic contribution from the carrier or host. Typically, at least one of the gametes (sperm or eggs) is from the couple who is trying to have the baby.

I get it now. When you use a Surrogate, you use their eggs and uterus. When you use a gestational carrier, you only use their uterus.
Makes sense to me now.
