MI - Serial rapist in Detroit, sketches released 1-17-2011
Since the beginning of the new year, eight women have been attacked in the NE sector of Detroit.
For want of a better name, they are calling the pervo the "Bus stop rapist", since that is where all of his victims have been when he found them.
He is African American, as are all of his victims thus far. Think about this, 8 attacks, 7 of whom are now rape victims, just in the first 17 days of the new year. How much damage can this guy do if this keeps up? And when will he start killing?
Here's what we know: He is not concerned about hiding his face and as a result, there are three different sketches, all similar.
Of the eight victims, one escaped the actual rape.
The reported areas include Gratiot Road and 7 Mile, Cadieux and Beaconsfield, and Conant and Charleston.
His victims are African-American women between 17 and 33.
All have been attacked at or near bus stops, either as they were getting off the bus, waiting to get on a bus, or oddly, enough, one that he caused an accident between his vehicle and hers and then proceeded to assault her.
All were attacked between 7:40 p.m. and 6:15 a.m.
His car is dark colored, resembling a Grand Am.
There is forensic evidence that LE is using to rule out suspects as they go.
I'm using this link because it has all three sketches, but there are numerous other links out there as well.
Women in the area are advised to travel with a man if they must go out at night or to catch the bus to and from their local police precinct.JMO. Unless there's a link, I can't prove it.

A 19-year-old victim of one of the attacks, described the ordeal to ABC affiliate WXYZ-TV.
"He ran up to me with a gun, he robbed me for my money, took me in the backyard and he raped me, made me stand in the backyard naked until he left…and he told me he was going to kill me," she said.
Police believe the attack is the work of one man who is a stranger to all of the women assaulted by him, Police Chief Godbee said.
Police precincts have been converted to bus stops and every bus driver in the city has a sketch.JMO. Unless there's a link, I can't prove it.

As an aside to this case, it was featured on JVM last night, (top of the hour) and it sort of irritated me the way that she handled herself in regards to this case.
One minute she's all about empowering women and the next, she is all mad and pounding the gavel, saying that she doesn't believe self defense is the answer and that women need to be able to depend on the police to protect them. Sorry, but it irked me. I hate to see something like this, that has altered so many lives turned into a platform.JMO. Unless there's a link, I can't prove it.

The victims, all but one residents of Detroit, have ranged in age from 17 to 33. All were alone when attacked between 7:40 p.m. and 6:15 a.m. Most were abducted near a bus stop, taken to another location and attacked, though one woman said a man bumped her car with his vehicle and then grabbed her when she got out to inspect the damage.

There have been 71 investigated tips, including a sighting of a man that matched the description in Harper Woods. LE did not sound very supportive of that sighting but say that they have stepped up patrols and notified the schools in the area.JMO. Unless there's a link, I can't prove it.

Last post on this one for little while, I promise. Detroit LE has hauled in somewhere around 9 suspects (reports vary) to investigate them.
All are being held on other charges, with forensic testing underway to see if they are the rapist. Not that I mind having other offenders off the streets too, but what worries me is that they might just be trying the process of elimination to find the guy. With a rapist as prolific as this guy, they can just hold random people for the 72 hours and if another rape occurs, reasonably assume that they don't have their guy.
Also the Detroit LE seems a bit wishy washy. One minute, they say they have adequate resources to cover the area and ensure that the community is safe (insert eye roll) and then they say that it is important for women to come to the police stations to catch their buses...um, which is it? Do you have adequate resources to protect the community or does the community have to come to you for protection due to what is, presumably, a lack of resources?
If they are understaffed or just have no idea where this guy will strike next, say that. Don't say that you understand him and that everything will be just fine. It's that kind of platitude that will eventually lead to public panic. The public needs to know the truth, deserves to know the truth, and has every right to be told what is really going on. JMO.JMO. Dates of the attacks:
The first attack occurred Jan. 1. He jumped a woman waiting at a bus stop around 6 a.m. She got away. About 20 minutes later and less than a mile away, he raped a woman along Gratiot. After that, the man went on a spree, raping women on Jan. 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 14.
Police have released three different composite sketches based on the descriptions of different victims. They all describe a man with a dark complexion and facial hair who is either five foot eight or five foot nine. But there are differences, including facial features such as the shape of his face and nose.

So far, six women have identified him in a lineup. This woman said she wouldn't be able to identify his face, but she will never forget his voice.
I hope this really is him.JMO. Unless there's a link, I can't prove it.
