IN - Baby Olivia left on officer's doorstep in frigid temps
Hours old infant left on police officer's doorstep in the frigid temperatures Friday night. Officer and wife stepped outside to smoke cigarette and discovered cardboard box with newborn wrapped in blanket within.

Croarkin said she was initially mislead by the box.
"[I thought] puppies, kittens. [It] turned out to be a baby."

Thank God this sweet baby is safe! It had to be a close neighbor or associate to know that a police officer and/or his wife WOULD find her. Otherwise she could have been left at a police department, fire station or hospital which are warm places and open 24 hours a day.
But, I will admit that I am suspicous and the news article does not give a lot of detail. Yes, it is stated that a police car was parked outside the home. But, unless someone knew the habits of the occupants in the home (they stepped out to smoke) they could not assume by an official car parked that anyone would would ever go out on a bitterly cold night for any reason.
No ring of the doorbell? No anonymous call? Just pure luck that she was found?
My question is: was the baby still warm to the touch meaning she had only been there for minutes? I can not imagine that a newborn could be outside for long in frigid weather. And, the weather in the midwest for the past few weeks will take an adult's breathe away. It chills us to the bone.

I agree, had to be a close associate, neighbor, or someone who at the very least knew they didn't smoke in their homes and could watch from a distance til they went in after a smoke break and drop the baby off just before the next anticipated one.
Apparently no ring of the bell, no knock.
I hope the baby's parent(s) come forward so the baby can be moved forward for adoption into a loving family.
So glad little Olivia is healthy and well. What a lucky lucky little cutie.
