CA - Debra Schmitt, 53, San Rafael, 19 Jan 2011 - Missing teacher
Students of Debra Schmitt told San Rafael police they found the message "Thank you everyone" but not their teacher when they showed up for her English class at Terra Linda High School on Jan. 20. Current and past students are turning to a Schmitt fan page on Facebook to appeal for her safe return.
Schmitt, 53, was last seen a day earlier in Ross, where she lives.
Police said there were no indications Schmitt had been kidnapped or attacked, and authorities found her car, identification and purse at her home.

Per news reports, she has lost 3 family members in the last year and her husband filed for divorce on Jan. 11th.
Her classroom keys were in her school room.
The blackboard had the message, Thank you everyone.
Her car, id, and purse were found at her home.
It does seem like she had a lot of stressors.
But, she had family support. She has a son in 8th grade.
She seems to have the admiration of her students and friends.
I hope she just left on a break.
Maybe the school has security cameras and they could tell if she was alone when she came by the school or if she came by car.
If she came in her car, and now the car is at her home, then she is either nearby her residence or someone came to pick her up.
Hoping for the best.God has a plan to help bring justice to the world -- and his plan is us.

This article says police do not suspect foul play - and talks about some searches for Debra
Rescuers searched the Phoenix Lake area Wednesday because Schmitt liked to hike there. They searched Golden Gate Park in San Francisco on Thursday because she had indicated previously that she might go there, police said.

My husband heard about this case on the radio today while driving into work (on the East Coast... maybe it was NPR?). He asked me to check and see if it was on here...
Sadly, I think this is not going to end well. If she had gone on a 'break', I believe she would have left a note saying so. I don't suspect foul play, either, but someone who had given up hope.

Schmitt's husband filed for divorce this month, said her cousin Linda Czarnik, who lives in New Jersey. Schmitt's aunt died in May, a cousin died in October, and another relative, Officer Jason Marles of the Ocean Gate Police Department in New Jersey, was struck and killed by a suspected drunken driver on Thanksgiving, Czarnik said.

- Where most don't see.
THis poor lady. She has been dealing with a very full plate already and then the divorce...I too agree, this will not end well. Tho, I hope maybe she has checked herself in somewhere for help, but really who of us would actually DO that.
Debra, please come home. Your family needs you and loves you.

I just read about this on abc news.In the article it mentioned a police officer that was killed by a drunk driver on Thanksgiving.I came here to find out more because that happened in my area. When I read Jason Marles up above,it is the same person I was thinking of.He had just finished his night shift in Ocean Gate and was heading home to Berkeley which is not far.Maybe 15 min at best.He took the parkway which is the fastest route when he was hit by a drunk driver.Jason Marles left a wife and two young children. My heart goes out to his family.I just wanted to explain in case anyone wanted some information.I grew up in the Ocean Gate area.As for Debra Schmitt it seens odd to me that she left her son with no explanation. No plans for his care?Sure he is older but still. And yet police are saying no foul play? The only other explanation is she left on her own but where and why?Could she have felt suicidal?I would think that she may have written a note to her son though.
