A South King County gynecologist surrendered to Federal Way police yesterday after prosecutors filed charges accusing him of raping two women, taking indecent liberties with two others and filing false insurance claims. Dr. Charles Momah was booked into the King County Jail pending arraignment. Prosecutors say they have asked that Momah be held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

He is charged with two counts of rape, two counts of taking indecent liberties and three counts of insurance fraud. If convicted, he could face up to 23 years in prison, according to the King County Prosecutor's Office.

David Allen, Momah's attorney, didn't return phone calls but has said his client is innocent.

The complaint comes a year after Washington State Department of Health officials suspended Momah's license after a woman accused him of fostering her drug addiction and threatening to withhold drugs if she didn't have sex with him. The charges say the woman went to authorities, who recovered DNA that closely matches Momah's.
