Am I being gullible here? This one is a tough one for me. I need to do more research and learn more details. Dr. Tubbs (not sure if his license has been revoked) seems to have been a kind and caring husband, father and doctor. The fact that he stayed by his wife as caregiver is applaudable (it is in most of our marriage vows, however). His patients are jumping to support him and I have no doubt that he was a great guy.....with them. However, I somehow doubt that a judge would sentence him if he truly "immediately deleted" the child *advertiser censored* photos. Couldn't that be determined by a thorough computer check?

I'd also like to know what level of child *advertiser censored*. 17 year olds or 5 year olds? To me, there is a difference. I've always believed that there's merit to the UK level system. A sad story all around. My heart goes out to his wife and to his children and to all the victims in the child *advertiser censored* he received. Please take a few minutes and read the comments. Thought provoking, but really only one side of the story.

St. Louis [Mich.] physician Dr. Craig Tubbs sentenced to 46 months in prison for possession of child *advertiser censored*

"St. Louis physician Dr. Craig Tubbs was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Bay City to nearly four years in prison.Tubbs had pleaded guilty in September to possessing child *advertiser censored*.

In a letter to the judge published by the Detroit Free Press, Tubbs insisted that he never solicited anyone for child *advertiser censored* but had turned to adult *advertiser censored* following the tragic accident of his wife.

After just six years of marriage, Tubb’s wife was involved in a car accident that left her in a wheelchair and functioning at the level of a child. He didn’t leave his wife, but he looked to the Internet for friendship and met women who sent him seductive photos, according to the newspaper. One thing led to another, and the photos began to include nude pictures, and other photos he traded with men.

“I sought out these relationships and photos, even though I knew it was wrong,” he said in the letter. “But to me it was somehow less of a failure than it would have been for me to divorce my wife and abandon her, or to have a series of affairs.” After the women in the photos got younger and younger, one day photos of prepubescent girls showed up..."

and

“I never wanted these repulsive photos,” he wrote. “I immediately deleted them as I found them repulsive and was physically sickened as they loaded on my computer screen

But it was too late....."

The other side of the story:

".....U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade said this was not a case where someone accidentally obtained child *advertiser censored* images.

“I think there is strong evidence that this is someone who intentionally possessed child *advertiser censored*,” McQuade said. “ And because of his position of trust with children as a family doctor, we have an obligation to protect those children.”

She stressed: “We take a hard line on a case like this.”

and

"....In an interview with authorities, Tubbs admitted to having 54 child *advertiser censored* images. records show..."

This causes me to look at Dr. Tubbs through a different lens. I understand the interest in adult *advertiser censored* as he felt that it was a better alternative than having affairs. OK. But he was trading adult *advertiser censored* with other men. That seems a bit off to me. The women got younger and younger. He could have stopped right there. He says he was afraid to report the child *advertiser censored* as he didn't want his "secret" addiction to adult *advertiser censored* to come out. As if LE care if he has legal adult *advertiser censored*. He's a doctor and a very bright man. He would know, or could research and learn, that there were no laws broken by downloading legal *advertiser censored*. It's not as if LE would put out a press release on the good doctor. And he didn't immediately delete every image. He kept at least 54. That tells me all I need to know.

It's a slippery slope. As we've read before, an addicted person craves more and more and increasingly graphic images. The very fact that the man worked with children in his medical practice and had the full trust of his patients is frightening. As his morals slipped, we know where that might have led. I'd still like to know the ages of the children in those images.

I'm very sorry about what happened in this man's life but many men are caregivers to invalid wives who don't view child *advertiser censored*. He might have been a saint but he sinned and he has to pay for that sin.

OK, my head's screwed back on correctly. Possibly I fell for the sob story as my husband is my caregiver and my heart goes out to caregivers. It's a tough job. But that doesn't negate the criminality of soliciting child *advertiser censored*. Tubbs is guilty. Shame on him. And he was allowed to continue in his practice--seeing children, with parents present--until trial. Not smart. Some great comments after several of the articles. I like the one where a poster asks, "What if they were photos of your child?". Someone poses the question about Tubbs being a mandated reporter also. And it tells me a lot about his character that he sued the family of the dead woman and her unborn child even though his wife caused the car accident. I'll put away the hankie.

"...A federal agent traced Tubbs through an e-mail address after authorities were tipped off last year by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. That special agent, who works for Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said in an affidavit that ICE agents in New Orleans received a tip Sept. 11, 2009 listing two e-mail addresses alleged to have been used to distribute child *advertiser censored*.

Both addresses were assigned to the same man, who was interviewed and confirmed that he sent child pornographic images to an e-mail address that Tubbs established, according to the criminal complaint. During a subsequent interview, the man confirmed that he sent child pornographic images to the e-mail address Tubbs created between July 5 and 19, 2009, according to the complaint.

Analysis of the man’s computer showed that approximately 83 e-mails were exchanged between Tubbs’ e-mail address and one of the e-mail addresses used by the other man, according to the complaint...."
