Ignas was just 14 when she disappeared on Dec. 13, 1974 in Thornhill, along Highway 16.

The young teenager's decomposed, partially-clad body was found by police and tracking dogs four months later, on April 6, 1975, in dense bush near a private logging road, six kilometres northeast of Terrace.

Police said she had been strangled. Investigators believed Monica had been hitchhiking but Monica was a quiet Grade 10 student and her family said she typically did not hitchhike.

In Dec 1974 Monica Ignas was murdered. The police did not follow protocol and allowed a person of interest to enter the gravel pit and remove gravel. Was he removing evidence. We will never know. He was stabbed to death March 2019
