PA - Montgomery Co., Male Skeletal Remains in Norristown Farm Park, Feb'11

    http://pottsmerc.com/articles/2011/0...0010995294.txt

[Montgomery County First District Attorney Kevin] Steele said there was no apparent foul play in the death. He gave no indication as to the age of the victim, but the remains have been determined to be male.
Comments at bottom of article suggest that it might be John Denner Bean

It looks like the thread title should be 2011, not 2010.

Foul play dismissed in Montco discovery of human remains
    February 24, 2011

First Assistant District Attorney Kevin Steele said that the results of an autopsy were pending but that the remains were believed to be those of a local man.

"It's going to take some time, simply," Steele said. He declined to release any more information.
The man who found the body reports that he saw a WWII era assault rifle, a black blanket or jacket and car keys with remote opener from the 90's.

    How bizarre...

Hartzell said he had taken Presidents Day off and was hiking into the park from Germantown Pike when he saw something shiny on the ground, protruding from beneath a downed tree.

"As I looked further, I saw the butt of a gun. I pulled it out and found a World War II assault rifle. The shiny part was the bayonet. It was still attached," he said.

"And then I noticed a black blanket or jacket, trench coat. I moved it around, and in the pocket were car keys. It had a remote car opener from the '90s.
Steele confirmed that the rifle was a Soviet-era SKS.
I grew up in Blue Bell, and I'm not sure I know where the Norristown Farm Park is that is referenced in the article. I've probably been by it though and just didn't know it was called that.

John Denner Bean was last seen at Facenda Whitaker - I can't picture any park area right there near Facenda's, so if it turns out to be Mr. Bean, I don't think he just wandered there by accident.

Can't find any updates on the remains found. I'll have to snoop around some more.
