A woman’s bones were found in a culvert or sewer outside a yellow house at the corner of Turner and Cook streets.
“Your sins are going to find you out,” Sheriff Charles Pearson said at the scene. “We have located the remains of woman who has been missing for years.
“We have human bones, the medical examiner is here doing the pathology, then the painstaking work of removing her and returning her remains to the family.”
One suspect is in custody. The find was the result of a long investigation by Muskogee police and sheriff’s departments.
Police won’t release the names of the suspect or the victim until the victim’s family is notified.
Jeffrey Joseph Grannon of Muskogee is the suspect, according to family members who called MuskogeeNOW.
The victim may have been Carol Lynn Grannon, who was 36 when she went missing in March of 1998, according to Web searches. Police would not comment on the suspect or the victim’s identities.

I heard Mrs. Grannon was found in a manhole in the yard from the last place she was reported seen. If this is the case , why was this not the first place they checked in 1998? This is a small yard in a small neighborhood.

BREAKING NEWS: Police believe bones to be that of woman missing since 1999

The Muskogee County Sheriff said law enforcement officers believe they know whose bones are being recovered Thursday.

"We believe we have found the remains of Carol Stallings Grannon," said Sheriff Charles Pearson. "She was located in a manhole in the Midland Valley Addition in the 1100 block of Turner Street."

Grannon was reported missing in 1999. The mother of four was 36 at the time of her disappearance.

The victim is believed to be Carol Lynn Grannon, who was 36 when she went missing in March of 1998, according to Web searches.
Jeffrey Joseph Grannon of Muskogee is the suspect, according to family members who called MuskogeeNOW.
Josh Grannon, Jeffrey’s youngest son, was arrested in a meth lab bust, and though police won’t identify him as the one who talked, relatives say it seems certain he was.
“Our deputies received information after they read the suspect his rights about the possible remains of Carol Grannon, who had been missing 11 years,” Sheriff Charles Pearson said. “Deputies went to the location and determined that everything fit the description. Right behind the suspect’s residence was the manhole, and they found what are definitely human remains.”
The suspect apparently had been pouring concrete on the remains for 11 years to cover up the crime, according to Pearson. The manhole was not one currently in use by the city.

Okay, so the suspect poured concrete over her body in the manhole. That makes more sense as to why the searchers would not find her at first. I wonder what tipped them off to look below the fresh concrete?

Husband arrested after remains of Muskogee woman found

MUSKOGEE -- Authorities are excavating an old sewer drain in Muskogee where the remains of Carol Stallings Grannon are believed to be.

The drain is behind the home Grannon shared with her husband, Jeffery Joseph Grannon. He has been arrested after allegedly confessing to the crime, according to arrest records.

Carol Grannon was 36 years old when she went missing 12 years ago.

Officials found the body after getting a tip from the woman’s stepson, who had been arrested in drug charges, they said.

Muskogee Police Lt. Bobby Lee said that he lifted a manhole lid to the drain Thursday and went down about five feet. He was quickly able to determine that there were human remains in the drain, he said.

It will take two to three days to remove the remains because cement has been poured into the hole, he said. Officials will sift through the soil for as much evidence as they can find.

Ex-husband's work leads to discovery of missing Muskogee woman's remains

MUSKOGEE - When Muskogee County Sheriff’s Deputy Eddie Walker knocked on the door of a motel room to bust an alleged meth lab earlier this week, he had no idea it would lead to solving the 12-year disappearance of his ex-wife, Carol Stallings Grannon.

It was Grannon’s stepson Joshua Grannon, 26, who answered the door, and he was ready to talk.

“He said, ‘I have something for you, and I think you know what it is,’ ” Walker said.
