What a nightmare. I cannot even imagine how much pain these families are in. My prayers are with them.

HOUSTON -- At least two children were killed in a fire at a west Houston day care center Thursday, according to the Houston Fire Department.

Firefighters pulled a total of seven children from the burning building at Crest Park and Waypark.

A fire swept through a home daycare center Thursday, killing three children and injuring four others, fire officials said.

The blaze broke out at Jackie's Child Care, which was being run out of a house in western Houston, Assistant Fire Chief Bill Barry said.

Firefighters arriving at the scene found two children who had been injured outside the home and five more trapped inside. They rescued those inside and took all seven children to four Houston hospitals. The children ranged in age from 18 months to 3 years old.

Three of the children died after being taken to a hospital, Barry said. No other information was immediately available on those who died or the conditions of those injured, but fire department spokesman Rick Flanagan told the Houston Chronicle that cardiopulmonary resuscitation was being performed on four children as they were being taken to the hospital.

Praying for the families of these children and for the woman who operated the daycare..she must be devastated. How in the world would one ever come to terms with such a tragedy...so very, very, sad.
 
just watched the Fox Houston news online- 2 of the toddlers remain in the hospital in Houston and 2 are being moved to the Burn Center in Galveston. They wanted to fly them to Galveston but there is too much fog.

Please pray for the 4 survivors and their families.

Seven children were at that home in the 2800 block of Crest Park Drive at Waypark Drive Thursday afternoon, according to an official from the Houston Fire Department. The ages of those children ranged from 18 months to three years.

One child was in critical condition and one was in good condition at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, said hospital spokeswoman Jennifer Hart. She said one child also had been transferred to Shriners Hospital burn center in Galveston in critical condition, and had no information on the other child.
 
I feel bad for the firefighters too.

Two of the victims were identified as Elizabeth Kojah and Kendall Stradford -- both were 20 months old. The third victim’s identity is still being withheld.

A forensic investigator supervisor for Harris County says the their exact causes of death will not be determined until after the weekend.

As of Thursday night, four other children rescued from the fire remain hospitalized, and at least two of the surviving four were transported to Shriners Burn Hospital in Galveston.

Doctors in Galveston today administered oxygen to prevent brain damage in two children critically burned in a Houston day care home fire that claimed three young lives.

The children at Shriners Children's Hospital remained in critical but stable condition today, said Dr. David Herndon, chief surgeon. Two other children burned in the fire were hospitalized elsewhere.

Herndon said the oxygen could help stave off brain damage and lung inflammation from carbon monoxide and other toxic gases in smoke the children had breathed. Lung inflammation can lead to infection, he said.

The two children are burned on less than one-third of their body, Herndon said.

"We will be treating their burns with topical anti-microbials and they will require surgery, artificial skin and dressings," Herndon said, adding that severely burned children typically require multiple surgeries as they age to loosen inflexible scar tissue that inhibits growth.

My adult son was telling me about this fire. He mentioned that he had recently watched a program on tv----or maybe a video on the internet----of a soldier who was terribly burned in Afganistan (or Iraq.....son's attention span is not "all that.") Anyway, he says that the soldier was looking at many, many months of therapy, surgeries, and skin grafts. But as an experimental procedure, they treated his arm with stem cells and after a short period of time, you couldn't tell that his arm had ever been burned.

I guess I need to look this up and see what I can find, but if this stem cell therapy/treatment is that effective, then we need to be using it on ALL burn patients. Especially little ones like the ones injured in this fire.

Sorry for two posts in a row: but one of the first articles states that Jessica drove up to the home when she returned from the grocery store.....another article states that neighbors found her passed out from smoke inhalation on the lawn.

I hope and pray this woman did NOT leave those seven babies to fend for themselves while she went to the grocery store. Maybe she had an employee or helper who stayed with the children while she shopped? Or maybe she never left at all, and the neighbors who said she passed out on the lawn were correct. If she DID leave those babies alone, there isn't punishment enough.
 
How many babies did this lady have and how old were they? Here you can only have as many as you can carry in case of an emergency. I think that it's something like two or three babies under the age of two per each adult employee.

She normally cared for nine babies between the ages of eighteen months - 3 yrs old. The ratios here are different between a day care and in home childcare. There have been conflicting reports about whether the limit was 6 children in that age group or 9 or 12. Idk, i looked up the statutes and it was like many statutes, confusing. It depends on age of children, time of day, home versus daycare business...she had advertisements on her van stating she does before & afterschool car and transportation to schools. How could she handle 9 babies and the school transportation?
 
THEY THINK THE DAY CARE WORKER WENT TO THE GROCERY STORE, left something on the stove, and came back to find the house on fire. She should do time for murder, imo/
