New Jersey couple vanishes on their way to VA.

PLAINFIELD (WABC) -- The Richmond Police Department is currently investigating a suspicious situation involving two missing persons and a vehicle.

They were last seen in Plainfield en route to Richmond, Virginia. They were driving a 2011 Nissan Altima, 4-door, silver in color, bearing a New Jersey tag YXE-62E.

Investigators are working with other jurisdictions in hopes of finding some information regarding Orna, Edwards or the vehicle. Detectives have reason to believe the two may be victims of foul play.

PLAINFIELD Investigators are making strides in unraveling the mystery of what happened to two Plainfield residents who vanished under suspicious circumstances while traveling from Central Jersey to Richmond, Va., authorities said.

Richmond Police Department spokesman Gene Lepley on Friday announced two new developments in the case, identifying an apartment complex where detectives gained "valuable forensic evidence" and singling out a second license plate that may be affixed to the vehicle in which Evande Orna and Troy Edwards last were seen.

Authorities believe Orna and Edwards reached Richmond and were at the Town & Country Apartments in South Richmond. Police were concerned after they searched an apartment at the complex and discovered "red stains in several locations," a law-enforcement source said.

Richmond police spokesman Gene Lepley said Orna and Edwards were last seen in a silver 2011 Nissan Altima sedan with a New Jersey tag of YXE-62E. Those plates could still be on the car, but they might have been replaced by Virginia license plates of XNH-9410, which were missing from another vehicle, Lepley said.

I received word that they both were found dead this evening in NY in the trunk of the car. Cannot find news verification yet, but I did receive this info from victim's family member.

Richmond police have searched a second car in their expansive hunt for a missing New Jersey man and woman, as family members continue to wait for answers, fearing the worst.

Investigators on Tuesday searched a silver 2010 Cadillac with Florida license plates in their quest to locate Evande Orna, 39, and Troy Edwards, 40. Police say Orna and Edwards are of Plainfield, N.J.

Another article reported that it was Edwards' common law wife that saw the car and called police.

On Wednesday, the mother of Mr. Edwardss child noticed a car fitting the description of the rental parked near her home on East 52nd Street in Brooklyns East Flatbush neighborhood, the official said. Responding officers discovered the bodies in the trunk of the rented Nissan Altima at about 7:15 p.m., police said. There was a parking ticket on the windshield dated Feb. 28. A bullet was found on the drivers seat, the official said.

A preliminary investigation showed Orna was badly beaten and suffered head wounds. Edwards appeared to have his throat slashed; a plastic bag was tied over his head, the official said.
