UNSOLVED FL - Mandarin, Skeletal Remains in yard, Mar'11

fwiw......human skull found today at a home on the St. Johns River. This is the same river that runs thru Palatka.....tho much further north is where this skull was found....no details yet, but will keep my eyes open....

Thanks Cam. It looks like this location is a little more than an hour from Green Ln.

I wish they would tell us if it is a small child or an adult.

yes, how many children are missing from the area? one that i can think of

Which directions does the river flow???

It is one of a small number of rivers in the United States to run north.

The house on Mandarin is fairly close to the river, but not close enough that a skull could just wash on up into the yard unless there had been major flooding in the area. It's an easy area to access by boat, though, with a lot of piers nearby on the riverfront. I dunno. We'll just have to wait and see.

From the link http://www.news4jax.com/news/27204905/detail.html

Channel 4 learned that workers at the home discovered the skull in a hole in the ground. The article says "other bones" were found also.

Do we know whose house it is, who lives there or the owner of the property?

yes it flows north! This was found straight up the St. Johns.....from Palatka

If the skull and bones were found in the ground it seems to me they were buried.
Not sure how they could float down the river and be in the ground if they were Haleigh's.

But it will be an interesting thing to follow.

I hope a family gets some sort of closure from this find.

It's possible to be buried naturally. A body could be carried somewhere by floodwater, then buried by silt deposited by that flood, or by a later one. Not the most likely thing in the world.

The comment about the archaeological site made me think it was an older grave, but with the crime scene van...

They haven't said this is a childs body, I highly doubt it.

Yes, but in the case of Haleigh, would it be probable?
I mean, would her skull and bones float down the flooded river, never seperate, and end up together in one spot to be covered together in silt? I don't think it is very likely.

Were there any major floods in the past 2 years that would have deposited these remains in the current location? That would mean the property was flooded.

I wonder, and I know nothing about these such things, but could Haliegh's body have floated downstream 2 yrs ago, before it skeletonized, and imbedded there? Of course, looks like it would have been discovered there b4 now. :waitasec:
