OR - Cautionary tale for wireless internet users/child porn

We never used to have a secure wireless connection.....until I started reading some of the WS stories. It's worth the extra trouble, IMO.

Milwaukie [OR] child porn case provides cautionary tale for Internet users

"A child pornography case working its way through Portland's U.S. District Court offers a cautionary tale for wireless Internet users and a peek at the increasingly high-tech methods police are employing to catch traders of the illegal images.

Kyle Scott Broadhurst of Milwaukie [OR] is accused of using a directional Wi-Fi antenna to access the unsecured wireless accounts of residents in the Linwood neighborhood. He then allegedly accessed Internet file-sharing programs choked with child porn...."

    and

"....The system, called Peer Spectre, helped Clackamas County sheriff's Deputy Erin Schweitzer identify residential computer accounts that had been used to move child-porn files. Schweitzer parked outside homes with her laptop to confirm that the networks in her investigation were unsecured, which led investigators to believe someone with an antenna was disguising downloads through those wireless accounts...."

Yeah but if they are interested and knowlegable enough to know how to do this, they have probably already learned how to do it from internet sites and other pedos.

However it is the private individuals who don't know about this that get caught. They don't think about it until LE comes knocking on their door to talk about the porn that was downloaded on their account. The private individuals are the ones who need the reminder.

For instance I knew about this, but had forgotten. It just reminded me to do some work on mine in the next few days.
