Human remains found in N. Fort Myers

NORTH FORT MYERS: Lee County Sheriff's Office investigators have found human skeletal remains in a heavily wooded area in North Fort Myers.
A man walking in the woods near the intersection Birkdale Avenue and Southeast 24th Avenue discovered the remains Tuesday afternoon, then contacted the Sheriff's Office.
Investigators recovered a human skull along with several other "major bones" about 100 yards from the roadway.
They're still trying to get through the thick brush, using machetes to clear a path to where the bones were found.
The man who stumbled upon them calls it a traumatic experience and says a pile of clothing was found along with the bones

    From the article

Harris said he contacted the sheriff's office and took them back into the woods and found the rest of the remains, which were bleached out from what looked like years of exposure to the elements.

Here's another article. Not alot of new information, but they reiterated that the remains have been there for a long time.

Unlikely link, but I thought of the Fort Myers Eight and Daniel Conahan, the serial murderer who has been linked to about a dozen killings that took place near Route 41 during the 1980s and 1990s.

I can't find this case listed in Namus or Doenet.

    http://www.abc-7.com/story/14305175/...eletal-remains

These aren't the first human remains found in the area. In 2009, a woman discovered a decomposing body in her backyard near the intersection of Littlestone Court and Birkdale Avenue, just three blocks from the current investigation.

    http://www.abc-7.com/story/14460025/...n-n-fort-myers

A group of college students along with their professor from Edison State College discovered what are believed to be human remains at a site already combed by the Lee County Sheriff's Office several weeks ago.

This article doesn't have anything new about this particular case, but it has information about quite a few unidentified remains found in Collier County over the years: http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2011/...clues/?print=1

Was there ever a follow-up in the press? It isn't clear from the posts whether this was a male or a female.
