Prayers for Officer Christian's family. Such a young man with two little ones. And prayers that Officer Howard makes a full recovery. Hood needs to be found fast. He's a bad bad man.

From noZme's link:

"...The incident that led to the shooting death of an Athens police officer Tuesday started with a man locked in a car trunk, his hands and feet bound with plastic Zip Ties. The 31-year-old man would later escape and tell police that he'd been ambushed by Jamie Hood, 33. Hood had asked JAB to come to a house on Ranick Road east of downtown Athens, where several associates, their faces hidden by ski masks, were waiting with guns, according to a police incident report..."

and

"...Soon after JAB escaped and told police what had happened to him, Athens-Clarke County police officer Tony Howard spotted Hood west of downtown Athens. Hood was in a red Chevrolet Suburban driven by his brother, Matthew, 27. When Howard stopped the SUV, Jamie Hood fired at him, hitting him more than once, according to police. Jamie Hood ran from the SUV and shot and killed Officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian when Christian approached in his cruiser, police said.

Matthew Hood was arrested and taken to the Clarke County Jail..."

Cop killings are near and dear to my heart! RIP brother Christian, the Lord has a special place for Heros!

I lived in Athens for about 9 years, for undergraduate and grad school. I know alot of people there and really hope they catch this person. Here's the latest today:

Went to High School and College in AThens many, many moons ago belimom. I too hope they catch this guy. Friends in Athens were wondering the other day why every cruiser in APD was at Broad Street...now we know.:banghead:

Billboards advertising $50,000 reward for alleged Athens cop killer's arrest

Authorities were using high-tech video billboards Thursday to spread the word about a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the man suspected of killing an Athens police officer and wounding a second officer.

Included in the rotation of advertisements on the billboards, including some alongside metro Atlanta interstates, was an ad featuring the mugshot of suspect Jamie Hood, along with information on the reward.

Prayers for Officer Christian and his family.

So sad, and so senseless.

House raided, but hopes dashed

In a third day of searching Thursday, authorities thought they had cornered a man who murdered an Athens-Clarke police officer and wounded another, but after storming an Eastside house, they came up empty.

Hood is a career criminal, who having killed a lawman, has nothing to else lose. After this long he could be anywhere. A desperate man with a gun is very dangerous!
Athens is the home of the University of Georgia.

ATHENS, Ga. -- Police are trying a new tactic to reach the man accused of shooting two of their fellow officers this week, killing one of them.
Athens-Clarke County Police posted this message on their facebook page Friday:
"Several friends and family members of [Jamie] Hood have told investigators that Mr. Hood would turn himself in, but he fears that law enforcement will kill him instead of allowing him to turn himself in. This is simply not the case. All of the law enforcement agencies searching for Mr. Hood are trained to use deadly force only in response to life threatening resistence. [Jamie] Hood can arrange to turn himself in without fear of bodily harm by simply calling 9-1-1 or 706-546-5900." (more @ link)

Police: Shooting Suspect Surrounded, May Have Hostages

ATHENS, Ga. -- Police have swarmed an Athens neighborhood in their search for a man accused of shooting two police officers.

Authorities told Channel 2's Manuel Bojorquez the family of 33-year-old Jamie Hood has been brought to the location, but they would not disclose why. Channel 2's Richard Elliot got a call from Hood's mother, Azalee Hood, saying she spoke with her son and that he told her that he wanted to turn himself in.

A student of mine in Athens is friends with him - and was questioned by police (evidently for posting on his FB page...?), according to her FB page. Her last update says that the news is lying - about 45 minutes ago. I don't know what that means.

Here is his FB page (I'm assuming it's him - he's a friend of hers on FB and the messages to him are begging him to turn himself in, etc):

Here's more:

Hood, 33, has nine hostages, according to Vernon Keenan, director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
However, Hood asked to speak to his mother, Azalee Hood, and she was escorted to the neighborhood in a police cruiser.

ETA: I've been reading more and more - and it seems that he is as youth football coach in Athens.

near home where he is holding hostages

From that link (bbm):

Jamie Hood is no stranger to law enforcement. He was released from Macon State Prison in 2009 after serving 11 years of a 12-year sentence for armed robbery. Also, another one of his brothers was killed by Athens-Clarke County Police during a standoff 10 years ago.

I say get a sharp shooter and end it. Killing cops, holding hostages, no negotiations, take him.

I think the 'hostages' are friends/family at the house he was located at (could be wrong - just reading various comments). From reading the pages of his FB friends and comments, it seems that many were in denial early on and said there's no way he could have done something like this. I think it finally sunk in and they are all pleading with him to do the right thing --- and not to hurt anyone else.

One article I've read stated that Hood called police to negotiate his turning himself in when Athens Clarke County Police traced the call, went to that location and then surrounded the home where Hood now holds 9 people hostage.
