Mexico Mexico - Rebecca Coriam, 24, Disney Cruise Employee, Coast of Mexico, 22 March 2011

U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Pamela Manns said the Mexican navy is leading the search and asked for Coast Guard help early in the effort.

The Coast Guard provided long-range search aircraft but is not now actively involved in the search.

The FBI is not involved because it does not have jurisdiction, as the ship was off the coast of Mexico flying under a foreign flag, said spokeswoman Laura Eimiller of the agency's Los Angeles office.

But the FBI has heard no reports of criminal activity or foul play, she said.

I read a bit about this on the Disney forums today (they are *very* dedicated Disney fans!!)

Their take on it was clearly split - it is no one's business but Disney and the girl's family (i.e. no need to publicize it because it makes Disney look bad and may embarrass the girl's family if it's suicide) vs. "the world needs to know for their own security!!!" (implying that it was foul play or being buried by Disney because they don't want the bad publicity)

I found out that there is actually a website that keeps track of all the missing people, crime and sickness on all cruise ships! http://www.cruisebruise.com is one....

Wow thanks for sharing, the first thing I clicked on was disney, and the child pornagraphy charges shocked me.

I hope they find this girl, at least someone know something. if she was depressed or okay. Its actually very shameful if thats how Disney feels. But by looking at the link, we might hear about 1 or 2 of over the 1000's yearly incidents. So maybe its the news just not interested.

Thank you, WestCoastLady for the cruisebruise link. I just took a peek and while not totally surprised I am shocked at the high number of incidences.

I went on a cruise for our senior class trip (um, a couple of decades ago). I won't go on another one....

Family Flies to America to Search for Rebecca

Her parents, Micheal and Ann, flew out to Los Angeles on Thursday (March 24) in the hopes of finding their daughter - known to her friends and family as ‘Becca’ - when the ship docks.

Speaking at a press conference at the Crowne Plaza in Chester on Friday (March 25), Rebecca’s uncle John Jennings along with Rebecca’s elder sister, Rachael, who works at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Hoole, made a desperate plea for her safe return.

"We can’t believe it.

"The ship is huge - I am telling you that they haven’t searched the whole ship. When it docks we hope they will find her.

"She came back for her grandad’s funeral about six weeks ago - that’s the last time she was home.

"She talks to us through Skype and Facebook all the time. I remember her mum had put something on Facebook and she didn’t reply after about 12 hours, that was unusal for Rebecca."

So if her family thinks she is still ON the ship....

Yet they think that she is going to be found safe...

Then they are asking her to please come home because they miss her...

WHAT exactly do they think happened?

That she is hiding out on the ship somewhere with a little TV????

I'm confused....

They should search the ship with dogs... but I don't know that they will let the family on the ship at all. They generally turn around for another cruise pretty quickly I believe.

The press in the U.S. and in the U.K. are continuing to cover the story of the disappearance of a Disney Cruise Line youth counselor who apparently went overboard from the Wonder last Tuesday during a 7 day "Mexican Riviera" cruise. BBC News reports that the parents of Rebecca Coriam flew from the U.K. to be present when the cruise ship returns to Los Angeles.
We reported on the disappearance on Thursday and yesterday we published our perspective on who investigates disappearances from cruise ships.

Interesting read.

BBM

That is exactly what I believe happened to her. I can't see how she could be voluntarily hiding somewhere on the ship. MOO

If she went overboard though, there are really only two options- foul play (someone pushed her overboard) or suicide. The railings on cruise ships now days are WAY too high for someone to accidently fall. You would have to jump off voluntarily (suicide) or be thrown off.

True....I don't see how anyone would accidentally fall over. This SHOULD be pretty cut and dry.....don't they have cameras everywhere??? This is a Disney ship.....they absolutely have to have video of nearly every inch of that ship, save the individual rooms. Do crew members have bedrooms with a balcony?

Never been on Disney, but saw a few crew member cabins on a Carnival ship(went on board, but had family who was working on board at the time so we spent quite a bit of time with the crew) and they definitely DID NOT have balconies. They lived in very tiny, closet like rooms.

I've never been on a cruise.

Bless this family this has to be so hard for them.

I don't see a report that they ruled out she was not left at a prior port (was reading some of the comments on one article and this was brought up).

I'm not seeing any reports to answer the question Krista brought up in her post and that is aren't there cameras?

Then the quote that Kaylynn pulled from that article (same one that I went to read and saw some comments about the port) has that been addressed by the media as investigated (meaning did the LE or whomever is investigating come out and say that was untrue?). It probably has to be but good lord can you imagine if you heard that and it was your daughter missing. egads.

We have a lot of archived threads of missing individuals that went overboard on cruise line and were never recovered. I remember reading them and just feeling so sad for their loved ones. IIRC there was an issue or some discussion about who exactly it is that investigates these occurances when they happen while the ship is out ---again I have no knowledge about any of it.

She is such a pretty young lady. Look at that smile, I bet she lit up the room when she smiled. Prayers for her family.

all JMHO

ETA: Is there any place to secret her on a ship like Annie Le was hidden? KWIM? Just exploring what the family suggested in that could she still be on the ship? I'm at a loss other than she fell overboard and is lost.
