GUILTY OK - David, 60, & Rose Garrick, 57, murdered, Midwest City, 22 March 2011

MIDWEST CITY — Police accuse the grandson of two Midwest City residents killed and burned Wednesday in their home of taking a cellphone video of their bodies and smoking pot with friends in the living room before setting the bodies on fire, Police Chief Brandon Clabes said.

Police arrested Kyle Smith, 17, on Wednesday on multiple felony complaints in the deaths of his grandparents, David Garrick, 60, and Rose Garrick, 57, at their home at 3416 Pleasant Drive, Clabes said.

Investigators accuse Smith of killing the Garricks and their dog, Clabes said. The dog's body was found in the bathtub and the Garricks' bodies were found elsewhere in the home, but Clabes declined to specify where.

Smith went to the mobile home of another person, whose name was not released, on S Douglas Boulevard in Oklahoma City on Wednesday and showed the person the video depicting his grandparents' bodies, Clabes said. Smith confessed to the person that he killed the victims and described the incident in detail.

"These murders were so violent in nature and then add the fact the suspects tried to destroy the crime scene by intentionally setting the house of fire, shows the true evil in this case," Midwest City Chief Brandon Clabes said. "I hope justice prevails and these three people are given their due punishment for such a heinous and gut wrenching murder."

A Midwest City teenager killed his grandparents with a machete, then videotaped himself poking at his dead grandmother's eyes with the weapon before eventually setting their bodies and the house on fire, according to a police affidavit.

The affidavit states that [Kyle] Smith told a friend he shot the video because he “wanted to make a memory” of the killings.

The affidavit filed today says Smith used his cell phone to shoot video that shows the couple's bodies on the floor of their home and the end of a machete poking at the heads and eyes of the bodies.

MIDWEST CITY — Police reported collecting a “demonic drawing” from the bedroom floor of a slain couple's burned home during the investigation of their teenage grandson.

The “demonic drawing” was found on the floor of the southeast bedroom. Also collected from the same room were handwritten notes, a novelty bullet, four knives, a dagger and a CD of the heavy metal group Slipknot.

Police reported that [Luke Randolph, a friend of Smith's] said “Smith told him the last couple of days had been pretty crazy and that he had killed his grandparents.”

MIDWEST CITY – A teenager cursed at his grandparents and laughed as he made a cellphone video late March 22 of their mutilated bodies, police reported.

Kyle Alexander Smith spoke in a “demonic-type voice” at the video's start, a friend, Jonathan Siders, told police.

In the video, Smith repeatedly used profanity and spoke at first in a deep raspy voice, police reported.

Using expletives, Smith said, “Look at all those guts. That's ... crazy. F--- both of you,” police reported.

Early in the video, Smith stepped on his grandmother's hand and stuck the machete in one of her eyes, police reported. He later stuck the machete into his grandfather's head wound and said, “That's … gross,” police reported.
