Nicknamed "Peaches" by a detective her torso was found in a large plastic container in the woods ten years ago. She is thought to be under 30, possibly a teen. African-American with a light complexion. Scar on abdomen, possibly a c-section scar.

The killer had also left one important clue: a tattoo of a heart-shaped peach with a tear drop was discovered just above her left breast. http://wcbstv.com/topstories/local_story_070211403.html

They have found the tattoo artist and he remembered the girl, but there was no paperwork.
He remembers her saying that she was from NY and visiting friend in Bristol about a year before her death.

Even though they were found almost ten years apart, the fact that they both had tattoos of fruit on their breasts is too creepy, not to mention they were both possibly of the same race, and found in the same county in New York, and their bodies were dealt with in a similar manner. I wonder if these two women knew each other or were possibly related, seeing as they had similar tattoos on opposite breasts?

Perhaps the tattoos were done by the same "artist" or maybe there is a gang or "freshman initiation" link? Just guessin'.

I held out on posting this because I thought she would be quickly ID'd as Shannon Gilbert. However, police say that the fifth victim is not Shannon.

Since the victim remains unidentified, it seems that there should be a thread here (in addition to the thead in the Crimes in the News forum).

A police spokeswoman said Thursday that authorities determined the remains were not those of Shannan Gilbert of Jersey City, N.J.

Here are additional details regarding the discovery:
The remains of a fifth body were located west of Cedar Beach, Long Island, approximately one mile from where the other corpses were discovered in December, according to Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer.

The comments on the bottom say that the article is incorrect and the victim is NOT Shannon Gilbert. I dont know how to post links but I checked Newsday(local paper) just now and it still also says its not her. Strange. Someones info is wrong.

Three more bodies have been found in the Gilgo Beach area, bringing the total of bodies found to eight.

... and BTW, according to this article, the fifth victim was male:

Last week, a fifth still unidentified boy was discovered in rugged underbrush. Four women were found nearby in December. They had worked as prostitutes and escorts advertising on Craigslist.

Eight sets of human remains have been found in neighbouring Suffolk County since December, CNN reported. Police have said the remains may have been in the area for more than two years. Four bodies have been identified as women who advertised prostitution services on websites.

On the other Blog spots for this topic and I admit I didn't read all the pages, people were asking how could the UnSub/SK know the victims family numbers and call.As well as using a pc and not be traced?

I've some thoughts.According to the Police Profile the SK is above average intelligence. So as to locating victims family.Simple take the victim's cell phone and look at the call memory.Sure no last names maybe but logic would tell you the most frequent in out calls would be family. The SK simply buys a burn phone using cash and starts calling numbers. When a person answers they simply say"Hi I am a friend of so and so I've not seen her in a week is she ok?"Sooner or later a family member will answer and start talking.Once done with his tormenting call he tosses the burn cell phone in the trash. As for the pc use.A person good with computers would know how to bounce off so many servers to be untraceable or know that wireless is everywhere.Simply drive around until you find one not pass word protected or go to any number of internet cafe's or coffee shops.

Lastly I am going to add to the profile. If the SK did in fact call and torment then that tells me he also is a sadist as well as a sociopath. He gets off striking fear into people and his victims.I would say each victim was tortured before their death. Not only does he need to strike fear but he needs to be and display that he is in total control as well as superior to everyone around him.As has been suggested it also wouldn't surprise me if the SK is super religious to a fanatical degree. If this is the case add to just above and his deep need to punish sinfulness and the families that raised them.

I would say it's safe to say the massive media attention and the fact it's National News will draw him into doing more.He loves the attention as I said makes him feel superior strikes fear and that he is in total control. If religious to a fanatical dregee he sees him self doing God's work.

On November 19, 2000, at approximately 11:00 A.M., hunters discovered the remains of a nude female lying in a wooded area adjacent to the LILCO right-of-way, near Halsey-Manor Road, in Manorville. Investigators believe the victim was placed in the wooded area sometime near the end of September 2000.

The unidentified female is described as white or Hispanic, between 30-40 years of age, 4' 10" to 5' 4" tall with a tattoo, or other identifying feature on her lower right leg or ankle. Investigators believe the victim may have had brown hair.

On Nov. 19, 2000, three hunters walking in the woods about a half-mile west of Halsey Manor Road, north of the Long Island Expressway, discovered plastic trash bags containing human remains. They were later determined to be those of a female who died several weeks before. She was nude, her body was chopped into pieces and her head, hands and right foot were missing. A forensic exam determined she was a brunette, white or Hispanic, no more than 5-foot-5 or 125 pounds, and between 35 and 40 years old.

[Suffolk County district attorney Thomas] Spota said another victim, who has not been identified but is being referred to as “Jane Doe No. 6,” was also found dismembered, her body parts deposited in Manorville and along Ocean Parkway. Her head, right foot and hands were found along Ocean Parkway on April 4, but the rest of her body was discovered on Nov. 19, 2000, in Manorville, in the same part of town where Ms. Taylor’s torso was recovered.

ETA: Police may have believed LIJD6 to have an identifying feature on the lower right leg or ankle because her death may be connected to the death of Jessica Taylor, found on July 26, 2003 near the same area in Manorville and on March 29, 2011 along Ocean Parkway. Ms. Taylor's suspected killer tried to obliterate a tattoo above her right hip and removed her head, hands and forearm to Ocean Parkway where they were found in March. (See http://www.amw.com/fugitives/brief.cfm?id=45219.)

Further information that may/may not be relevant. A number of other bodies have been found in both the Manorville and Ocean Parkway locations.

Four days later [after November 19, 2000], hunters found a second body just inside the tree line on the south side of the expressway between exits 68 and 69. That body was male, intact and clothed. Crushed neck bones were ''not accidental,'' Lieutenant Fitzpatrick said. The victim had been dead for about three weeks, was white or Hispanic, 20 to 30 years old, about 5-foot-6 and 130 to 150 pounds, and had black hair, he said.

[Suffolk County district attorney Thomas] Spota also offered details about two other unidentified bodies discovered by searchers who have intermittently combed Jones Beach Island since December. [snip]

The eighth body belonged to a toddler, likely a girl, Mr. Spota said. Her body was found wrapped in a blanket with no obvious signs of trauma.

“While the toddler was found only 250 feet away from Jane Doe No. 6, there is no indication so far that they are connected,” Mr. Spota said.

Just in.

Multiple killers in N.Y. beach murders?

Possibly more than one killer responsible for Long Island bodies: DA

'Another body discovered in recent months appears to be that of an Asian man who was in his late teens or early 20s and who died violently, officials said.

Another is a baby girl, between 18 and 24 months old, who was found wrapped in a blanket. "

"The killer or killers of Jane Doe 6 and Ms Taylor went to extra lengths in an attempt to prevent the victims from being identified," Mr Spota said, referring to how both women had been dismembered and scattered in different spots. "That is clearly not so with any of the other remains that we have found."

"Ms Taylor was thus dismembered, police said, while noting also that her killer had gone to additional lengths to conceal her identity, for example by scraping a tattoo from her lower back."
