OR - Lawsuit against Scoutmaster Alan Delay

I wish that more people would stop and ponder the fact that not every abused child can turn his/her life around and fly right. Oh, but only.....

No, many turn to suicide, drugs, alcohol or sadly, to a life of acting out the pain. My heart goes out this victim. He has not had a pleasant life and it seems that Delay recognized a vulnerable boy when one came his way.

Former Boy Scout is suing for $5.1 million, claiming Milwaukie [OR] troop leader took naked photos and molested him

"A 44-year-old man who says he was sexually abused by a Boy Scouts leader in the late 1970s is suing the local and national branches of organization for $5.1 million.

The man claims that when he was 10 to 12 years old, Milwaukie Scoutmaster Alan Delay gained his trust and the trust of his family as a volunteer leader with Troop 147. The suit claims that Delay began taking photographs of the alleged victim in Delay's home studio -- and that first the boy was clothed, then shirtless, then ultimately nude.

The suit claims that Delay committed various sexual acts against the boy. Delay wasn't criminally charged or convicted. The suit states that the alleged victim, now 44, didn't realize that the damage he's suffered throughout his life was linked to the abuse until 2008. Oregon law allows alleged victims of sexual abuse to sue up until age 40, or within five years after they realize the abuse has damaged them.

The victim, whom The Oregonian isn't naming because he's an alleged victim of sexual abuse, has lived a troubled life. He is serving time in an Oregon prison for kidnapping, robbery and assault...."

"Delay appears to be the same person as Allan deLay, who worked as a photographer for The Oregonian from 1947 to 1960. According to a news release issued by the Scouts a few years before deLay's death at age 89 in late 2005, deLay was recognized in 2002 for 75 years as a registered Scout and volunteer. The Cascade Pacific Council confirmed that it has only ever had one volunteer by the name of Alan Delay or Allan deLay...."

I just put two and two together. Alan Delay was the father of Paul deLay. That Paul deLay. It was a huge loss to the Oregon music scene when Paul deLay passed away at the age of only 55 in 2007. I hadn't realized how many personal demons he'd battled during his life. He was a truly gifted musician.

I can't help but wonder if Paul suffered at the hands of his father.
