NY - Teen Who Auditioned for 'American Idol' Brutally Attacked

    Bless her heart!!!! :-(

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/04/16...est=latestnews
A 17-year-old New York girl who auditioned for "American Idol" was beaten by five students at a Brooklyn high school leaving her incapable of competing in a talent show.

Five students from the Brooklyn Academy High School have been charged in the brutal beating of Shacara McLaurin outside her home. Police say they attacked her by beating her with a padlock inside a sock.

McLaurin told the New York Daily News that she was attacked because one of the girls was jealous of her singing abilities.

"It was jealousy. It was all due to the talent show," she told the Daily News.

McLaurin was unable to talk after the attack.
Students told My Fox New York that they were shocked at what occurred.

"The whole situation is bizarre. She's a good girl," one student told My Fox New York.

The five students have been charged with assault, menacing, weapons possession and harassment. They were released without bail.

    Wow! How horrible.
A padlock in a sock could easily kill someone.

This almost seems like bullying taken to a whole new level. We all had people that we were jealous or envious of, but I don't recall anyone ever being beaten by a padlock. What happened to following the examples of others, as opposed to being so angry that we would simply attempt to destroy the person that had a talent we didn't?

The hum,an race really is going to destroy itself, and soon.

Released without bail? Why? Seems like it could have been attempted murder?

That is so tremendously cruel. Surely, surely, if this young lady can heal....she'll be offered another chance. She deserves a red carpet entrance. Parents, please please talk to your little girls about violence. We so often overlook that dialogue with our daughters and female loved ones.

I remember reading a few years ago that Christina Aguilera changed schools because she was so ostracized when she first started having hits on the radio. She eventually was homeschooled? Can't remember now - LOL! But I do remember her talking about jealousy and being bullied, etc.

    It's just insanity to me.

She was beaten with a flippin pad lock wrapped in a sock by girls her own age who were all acting in a mob mentality because she has a gift.

Definitely makes me nervous for our kids as they get older....

Of course you always want to encourage your kids to do their best, & look at this mess.

I hope that they are punished severely for what they did to this poor girl, who did nothing wrong to anyone. She is a singer, using her talent, & this is what happens to her!? These girls thought nothing of causing her the pain that they did because they were all focused on this talent of hers that they wish they had so badly?

I can only hope that this experience doesn't break her spirit.

I'm sure they'll come up with some inane excuse for their behaviour, no doubt supported by their parents.
