CANADA - Qian 'Necole' Liu, 23, murdered in Toronto during webcam chat

I didn't see a thread on this. How extremely terrifying!!!!!!!!!

She was online chatting with her boyfriend who witnessed her murder via webcam. :-(

Bless his heart, trying to do what he could from China!!!!

A boyfriend living in China witnessed the murder of his girlfriend in Toronto over the web.

Qian "Necole" Liu, a 23-year-old York University student from Beijing, was found dead just before noon Friday in her apartment. Toronto police are still looking for a man reportedly seen struggling with her earlier that morning.

Police say Liu was chatting with her boyfriend by webcam at about 1 a.m. when an unknown man knocked on the door.

"She opened the door to a male. She could have known the male but he was unknown to the online witness," Toronto Police Det. Frank Skubic told the Daily Mail.

It took police more than 10 hours to arrive at the scene after Liu's boyfriend contacted her friends living in Toronto.

am I right in understanding that the roommates are saying they know who the stalker was?(an ex roommate) I hope the police are seriously seeking out that lead.

How horrible for this poor girl and her family. As a former exchange student, this one really shakes me.

It sounds like her friends know who the stalker is and it won't be long before they catch him. How utterly horrifying. Her boyfriend in China will be traumatized for life. I wonder if she felt safe opening the door simply because she was on webcam with her boyfriend ... otherwise it doesn't make sense that she would open the door to someone who was stalking her.

The boyfriend saw what was happening, and began using social media to leave messages for the Toronto friends. Those friends were asleep as it was the middle of the night in Toronto. When they got up they saw the message and went to check on her.

My guess would be that he was let into the house by someone else(or had a key, since it says in th article that her stalker was an old housemate)

She wouldn't have a peephole on her bedroom dooor. I imagine if I had a house full of housemates, and someone was knocking on my bedroom door, I would think it was one of them, not an outside guest, at 1AM.

Police charge Brian Dickson with first degree murder. "Police have asked the media to not publish photos of the suspect because it could compromise the investigation." I have never heard of this type of request but I guess the media will have to comply. Apparently, the autopsy was inconclusive and they are awaiting toxicology tests. There was talk in the media (rumor?) that she could have been given a lethal injection. I'm pretty sure the suspect is the guy that was "stalking" her according to her friends. RIP Qian.

Is There a Brian Dickson Photo?

Police have asked the media not to publish a photo of Brian Dickson as it might compromise their investigation into the death of Qian Liu.

Authorities also stated that a Brian Dickson photo has been floating around the web, but that it is not a real photo of Dickson.

“Should you obtain a photo of Mr. Dickson, I ask that you refrain from publishing it, as it would compromise our ongoing investigation,” homicide investigator Inspector Edward Boyd told media.

“Secondly, the photograph of a man that has been circulating on the Internet is not Mr. Dickson.”

Police revealed little about Brian Dickson other than the fact that he is 29 years old. It was not confirmed whether Dickson was the former roommate of Qian Liu's who had reportedly been questioned by authorities.

I wonder if they don't want to taint the memory of the witness from China?

The accused blinked his eyes repeatedly and made chewing motions with his mouth, appearing to be in some distress. A publication ban was placed over the brief hearing.

Mr. Dickson is scheduled to be back in court April 26.

At a news conference yesterday at 5:30 p.m., Inspector Edward Boyd, of the Homicide Squad, asked the media not to publish any photographs of Brian Dickson. He explained that publication could compromise his investigation.

A media outlet has just published a photograph of Mr. Dickson. In view of that, the Toronto Police Service cannot continue with its request.

It says he was "known to police"... Wonder if he's done this before, & the webcam caught him this time...

You know, the media never ceases to amaze me.

If the police didn't want his pic published why in the world would anyone violate that requirement just to be the 1st one to come out with it!?

Seems like her parents could sue them if it might compromise the investigation....

TONS of damaging info about the suspect in this article. He tells someone at the bar that "I am going to jail for life." WOW. http://www.torontosun.com/2011/04/21...-jail-for-life
