Ok - I had heard rumblings about this for the past week. I didn't research or try to find anything out.

Not until today.

As some of you know I have very "unusual" neighbors. These guys are all "of age" and most undocumented. They only party on the weekends and lately they've stayed within the limits.

Well today, on a workday I might add, I woke up to 12 - 15 kids outside my bedroom window all laughing and smoking. Most had interesting t-shirts on kinda commemorating the day. ALL of these kids are definitely under 21 (probably under 18). I haven't been able to figure out which "adult" is there.

Then, the noon news. Down in Miami a bunch of teens "skipped school" today and went to a local park. They all jumped in the water and one didn't surface. Of course, the others scattered (wonder why). The one in distress was found and did not drown - but it got me thinking.

How many kids skipped school today? Would really like to see the attendance numbers around the country from our high schools and "alternative" schools.

So, I finally decided to google.

Found this (below). Now notice this is from LAST YEAR (2010) so I have to wonder ust what is going on THIS year - in fact, right now.

I really couldn't find anything MSM from the US about this - this link is from the UK.

I'm very interested to hear your thoughts, opinions, comments, concerns regarding this new "holiday".

High times for American marijuana smokers as police allow thousands of '4/20' pot protesters to light up across the country
By Mail Foreign Service

Marijuana smokers across the America lit up in public parks, outside statehouses and in the posh confines of a Hummer parked outside a pot gardening superstore to observe the movement's annual 'high holiday' yesterday.
Those who weren't within whiffing distance of a college campus or a reggae concert may not have realised that Tuesday was '4/20', the celebration-*advertiser censored*-mass civil disobedience derived from '420' .

PS - There has been NOTHING mentioned on the noon news here about this at all.

As a former smoker who can clearly see it is safer then alcohol and with so many of our holidays centered around alcohol I say "to each their own"

Happy 420!

(BTW I wouldn't consider it a new holiday, the first time I heard of and celebrated it was in 97)

Sends a horrible message to the young people of our country.

It is still illegal and should not be celebrated until it is legal.

went to Seattle hempfest last year and had a great time, its on 4/20 and is world's largest annual gathering advocating decriminalization of marijuana. Its a fun event with music, food and lots of good times :great:

It's not illegal everywhere.

The only message we are sending to our country's young people by prohibiting marijuana is that we are a bunch of hypocrites.

This is not new. We celebrated it when I was in HS back in the mid-80s. There were even memo/notices hung all over school stating that unexcused absences on that day would be dealt with swiftly and harshly (they knew what everyone was up to if they were skipping THAT day).
