"Prosecutors said Wednesday that a suburban Chicago man charged with killing three young women, including two whom he met on telephone chat lines and a neighborhood teen he's accused of having videotaped sex with after her death, may have more victims.

Sonny Pierce, 27, of the Chicago suburb of Blue Island, faces three counts of first-degree murder. A judge ordered him held without bail during a court appearance Wednesday. A public defender who was in court with Pierce declined comment.

Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez, in announcing the charges, pointed to a "pattern" of behavior that allegedly stretched for about a year before Pierce's arrest on another sexual assault. Authorities have not identified any victims besides the three at this time, but believe there could be more...."

He was questioned in the disappearance of two of the women when they disappeared. He had been talking with them on the phone. But it wasn't until he was charged with raping a young neighborhood girl that they got his DNA. Looks like necrophilia might be an issue here.

Well that makes four murders that he was investigated for but never charged. At least not until after he committed a sexual assault.

According to the court documents, Pierce admitted having sex with Edwards "despite her cries for help" in his apartment while other men looked on. Investigators said he told them he and the other men beat Edwards to death, put her body in a garbage bag and dumped it.

But authorities said Pierce has refused to say where the body was taken. No others have been charged.

I think his claim that he had sex in front of other men and they beat her afterwards is interesting. An effort to deflect blame maybe? Plus a way to deny that he was into necrophilia? Publicly he has denied killing the women and said all he did was have "consensual" sex with them. The same woman, Mariah Edwards, is who was identified as being on the video tape where she was "lifeless" and he was having sex with her.

Just who are these "other men"? Are they talking about men being physically present or the rape and murder being shown on a webcam? As one blog writer said, "And people say that snuff films are an urban legend."

She disappeared in Aug. of '09, was found in Aug. '09 (about the same time her family reported her missing) and her remains weren't identified until the next July.

There is one missing girl associated with this case.

A Blue Island man accused of killing three teenagers and raping a fourth has been moved to protective custody in the Cook County Jail, telling his attorney he felt threatened by the other inmates.

I can't find any updates on Sonny Pierce after 2011. Was he ever prosecuted?

It looks like he is still going through the court system. His next court date is 10/03/2014.

I am just amazed that this case is still open. Three girls murdered in 2011. This guy is still in jail. He is still going thru the court system for 6 years now -
Why is this taking so long?
Why is there no new media coverage on this ?
I cant find the status on this court case - I can't say how frustrated this makes me...

Reading some of the old clips, it appears he was arrested for raping a 15 year old in his neighborhood as well as the other charges.

I found these two articles that might indicate he was arrested for another crime in another area. It also states his trial has been delayed because he was in and out of mental facilities. He was declared competent to stand trial in 2015.

The timeline of the crimes line up since all occurred before he was arrested in late 2009.

Greensburg man's rape trial proceeds after 6 years

A Greensburg man went on trial Tuesday on charges that he had sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl six years ago.

Westmoreland County prosecutors contend Samuel Pierce, 33, forced sexual contact on the teenager at an apartment near Westmoreland Mall in late 2008 and again in early 2009.

Westmoreland County Judge Debra Pezze started hearing evidence in the nonjury trial in which Pierce is charged with felony counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault and indecent assault as well as two counts of corruption of a minor.

Pierce's accuser, now 20 and working as a nursing assistant, testified she lied to her parents to attend the party where Pierce was present.

She said she and the other guests smoked marijuana before she was assaulted by Pierce in the bathroom when he barged in and touched her breasts. Two hours later, she said, Pierce again entered the bathroom and forced her to have sex.

“I tried screaming, but he put a towel around my mouth and said if I told anyone he would kill me,” she testified.

She told Pezze that Pierce again forced sex upon her in the apartment's bedroom two months later during a party to celebrate her 14th birthday.

Pierce was arrested in late 2009 and has been in jail since then.

According to court records, the case against him has been delayed repeatedly as Pierce was in and out of mental health facilities and jail.

Earlier this year, Pierce was finally declared competent to stand trial. The nonjury trial will continue Wednesday.
