This is heartbreaking, my thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Funding for behavioral health services are being cut and many people are not getting the services they need including medications. I think that they are still able to see a psychiatrist, but I'm not sure. I spoke with a woman who is getting some kind of social security and can just barely pay her bills, yet her income disqualifies her from medication etc.
I'm pretty certain that there are people with physical disabilities and THE ELDERLY are having their services as well. I hate to see all of these people lose their services, but it really is very, very, very upsetting that this is happening to senior citizens.
And honestly its not like the politicians want to do this, they just don't have that many other options.
I do not agree with Gov. Brewer on most issues, but ever since she entered the legislator and then became governor she has been a strong advocate for the mentally ill, and the homeless. Her son is mentally ill, he raped and killed a woman and is in the state hospital, the work that Brewer helps people like her son on their medication which helps to prevent these kinds of incidents.
Chances are this is what happened with Barton. The first thing I thought of when I read the article was suicide. Its very likely that if this occurred because Barton was taking medications, this situation could have been avoided. I wish that the economy would get better sooner.
