Six months after a teenage Amarillo girl went missing, local and federal authorities still are seeking leads on her whereabouts, city police said Thursday.

Jessica Delgadillo, 15, was supposed to walk to Palo Duro High School on Oct. 19 from her home in the 1300 block of North Bolton Street, police said. She was reported missing the following day.

"This isn't normally a problem but with this kind of retracted time frame, is what we're looking at here and normally kids come back within 3-7 days, they have contact with their friends, they have contact with their family, there has been no contact from Jessica for six months," said Celeste High a civilian detective for the Amarillo Police Department.

Circumstances: Jessica was last seen on October 20, 2010. She may travel to Lubbock, Texas or Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Jessica has a small scar above one eye.

This is so sad. It took 6 months to even hit the news. There's one day of coverage and then nothing now. Where are you Jessica?
 
It seems to be a long-standing policy in most police departments to gamble with children's lives by making "runaway" their default label for the missing. It is foolish, it is lazy and there is no excuse for it. Some kids show up, some are lured away by adults, and some are murdered. By the time LE gets around to investigating it is too late. I am disgusted by such stupidity.

I really agree with you. I got here tonight and saw this teenager missing. And at first I thought "another one from Texas"? But I think your right. So many go missing and are labeled and thus are "categorized" and fall in to the paperwork stacked on someones desk.

Thought provoking and very very disturbing.

Details of Disappearance
Jessica disappeared from Amarillo, Texas on October 20, 2010. She was last seen walking from her home in the 1300 block of north Bolton Street to Palo Duro High School. She never arrived and has never been heard from again. She didn't take any money with her, and none of her clothes were missing from home.

Jessica may still be in the local area, or she could be in Lubbock, Texas or Port Saint Lucie, Florida. She doesn't have family in any of those cities, but she does have some relatives in Mexico. Jessica hasn't been in touch with any of her family or friends since she went missing.

She was originally classified as a runaway, but investigators are no longer sure what caused her disappearance. Her case remains unsolved.

Previously missing person Jessica Delgadillo has confirmed she is alive and is currently living on the East Coast.

''But the search for Delgadillo started again in 2023, shortly after the department formed a new Cold Case Unit, police told KFDA. It selected three unsolved missing persons cases, and Delgadillo’s was among them. Detectives got in touch with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children for assistance, and two members began working with police, poring through the cases and sharing information on social media, investigators told the station. Then, in November, detectives received a call from a woman saying she was Delgadillo, KAMR reported. She’d heard they were searching for her, she said, adding that she was now living on the East Coast.''
