I have two missing females from Kalamazoo on my list:

Khristine Smith (1994)

Renee Lynette Kyles (2007)

I had heard that Mary Lands disappeared not far from here, or that her boyfriend worked right around the corner from her. It might be her?

Marshall, MI is not far from Kalamazoo at all - just a relatively short drive on I-94. I've made that drive myself a few times.

Though if the remains were found by someone looking at a flower bed, I'd wonder if perhaps they hadn't been there that long? It seems like a true flower bed would be dug up and tended to quite regularly - not necessarily the sort of place you might expect a body to remain undetected for several years.

If its the sort of flower bed that's tended to on a regular basis, wouldn't you think that the remains may have only been there at the most since the fall?

West Michigan families await identification of human remains

An anthropologist tells the sheriff's office that the bones belong to a woman between 35 and 50 years old.

...

Now, it's a waiting game for police to make an identification of the remains. Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller says a weekend is not enough time for identification.

“Four to eight weeks is really closer to what we look at. We want to get it right. We do not want to confuse people,” said Sheriff Fuller.

...

Newschannel 3 also spoke to Jim Carlin, the private investigator who has been looking for Mary Lands.

Carlin was out on the scene speaking to people and thinks the remains could be Lands, but Carlin says even if it's not Lands, it will help someone.

ETA:

Upon looking closer at Kristine's case, I realize that it is probably not Khristine. Her husband confessed to placing her body in a barrel and dumping it in lake Erie. Coincidentally, her case was just featured last night on 48 Hours on the ID Channel.

I thought of Venus Stewart. I think she was younger than 35, and I always assumed her husband dumped her somewhere south of Colon, MI, where she was last seen. Also, he probably hid her rather than dumped her along the highway.

However, it's only an hour away, so she definitely needs to be ruled out.

Reading the story of Tammy Briley....she apparently stormed off on her husband during an argument on the side of the freeway (I94)...looking at this map the body was found right near I94. Her family is positive it is her....time will tell.

Homicide cause of death of unidentified woman whose remains were found in Comstock Township, police say

COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP — Analysis of an unidentified woman's skeletal remains found in April in Comstock Township shows that her death was a homicide, police said Friday.

Michigan State Police forensic pathologists have determined that the woman's death “was caused by blunt-force trauma,

Sheriff's investigators are continuing to try to identify the remains, which were found April 28 in the 8400 block of East ML Avenue. They have determined that the remains are not those of Tammie Briley, Mary Lands or Venus Stewart, three local women who are missing.
Police said the remains are that of a white female, age 35 to 55 and 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 8 inches in height. As part of their continuing investigation, police are placing biographical data of the remains in the National Missing and unidentified persons Systtem, the National Crime Information Center and an FBI informational system.

Thank you Shewho'. That goes to show NamUs is not always fully complete with details and rule outs. Per MSM posted above, Tammie Briley, Mary Lands and Venus Stewart have also been ruled out. I wonder why they don't appear on the NamUs rule out list.

Facial reconstruction on human remains
Skeletal remains were found April 28
COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Investigators are getting a better idea of the identity of human skeletal remains found in Kalamazoo County.

The bones were located on April 28 in a vacant lot in the 8400 block of E. ML Avenue in Comstock Township.

The Michigan State University Anthropology Department has been able to provide a 2D facial reconstruction with various hairstyles of the remains.

so the UID was not local. the next nearest state is Indiana and there were no viable matches found there.

next up is Ohio and there were more missing persons to choose from. I watched the video twice and they have still yet to estimate a year of death. despite that, this MP is possible, Susan Smith from Toledo, OH, lka March 30, 2006. the height is about right (5'5") and Toledo abuts Michigan on the eastern side:

Here is the reconstruction on this Jane Doe:

Age: 35-55 years
Height: 5'4" to 5'8"

Based on the sketches it looks like a good viable match webrocket.

I did a quick search and it appears the driving distance between Toledo and Kalamazoo is approximately 150 miles. It is also approximately 150 miles between Kalamazoo and the Chicago area so I wouldn't exclude NE IL when searching for possible matches.

Both Susan Smith and Michelle Bianco look like viable possible matches imo.

One thing I noticed in the sketch it appears the UID has a crooked nose, unless that is just the artists rendition.
