I searched but didn't see anything here about Joshua Carrier's 2 arrests in Colorado Springs, CO: One for downloading child *advertiser censored* on May 11, and then again yesterday for multiple counts of child sexual abuse. Feel free to combine them, mods, if there's a duplicate somewhere.

This fine upstanding high school resource officer was also its wrestling coach and SURPRIIIISE!...was touching the male wrestlers inappropriately. Said he was "checking them for ringworm." What the stinkin' heck???

But the kicker for me? He also owned...a haunted house for children. If you want a guaranteed case of goosebumps if not flat-out swearing or vomiting, or all three, let me treat you to what he says in an October 2010 interview about his enterprise:

Lord help us all, he is creative, isn't he? We have a balloonologist so why not a haunted house owner, resource officer and coach.

Ringworm. That's a new one.

Here's the guy's website for his "joyful scary place". Sounds divine.

Tour through the darkness. Hmmmm.

They found the child *advertiser censored* and he still fought to keep his job?

It was a 78 count indictment. It's far worse now....

ETA: As recently as late May, there were five known victims. That number is now up to 22. I have to wonder if there's even more. Young male teens are not the greatest reporters of sex abuse by their coaches.

No, we do NOT want boys fabricating sexual abuse "stories". Trust me, the aftermath of a disclosure is a walk in the park. Something every teen boy wants to wade through.

Former Springs cop had 22 victims, prosecutors allege
July 26, 2011

"...Carrier’s defense attorney, Christopher Decker, blamed the new allegations on “fear, innuendo and guilty assumptions” — and on accusers seeking to profit from a lawsuit against the embattled former officer.

“While these charges are profuse, they are not proof of anything,” Decker said in a written statement in which he blasted the District Attorney’s Office for its “hubris....”

I think it was Carrier who exhibited vast amounts of hubris, truth be told. One thing I simply don't understand is how anyone could hope to sue a school. We've spoken to some of the finest attorneys in the northwest about our children being raped in school by a teen volunteer. We've been told by one and all that the school would have had to have prior knowledge that the person was a danger. It seems that Carrier passed all his background checks. I'll be very curious if a suit is successful. We just wanted some sort of therapy fund for our children but we've been told it will never be possible--even with 12 convictions.

Even worse than we first thought......

Former Springs Officer Faces More Charges
Prosecutor: More Child Sex Abuse Victims Identified From Video

September 15, 2011

"About 30 witnesses testified Thursday during a court hearing for former Colorado Springs police Officer Joshua Carrier. Most of the witnesses were the parents of alleged victims who spoke on behalf of their children.
Carrier is charged with 196 counts of child sex abuse and child *advertiser censored* against 21 victims -- boys who were members of the wrestling team at Horace Mann Middle School where Carrier volunteered as an assistant coach. Prosecutor Amy Fitch said additional victims have been identified from a video, and more charges will be filed. Carrier, who was fired from the police department after his arrest earlier this year, was a resource officer assigned to the school. He also claimed to be an emergency medical technician, but testimony Thursday from a police detective revealed that Carrier was not a licensed EMT...."

Those poor young teens. This is so unfair. Carrier might as well have cut them off at the knees. They trusted him. How were they supposed to know what a coach and resource officer was allowed to do? Your coach tells you to jump, you jump. Shame on this man.

So this is being compared to McMartin? Give me a break. I agree that the tapes should be returned and the guy deserves a fair trial but the parents identified their children. It doesn't surprise me in the least that the teens didn't come forward until the guy was arrested. Don't look now but most teen boys would rather die (literally, sad to say) than be labeled a victim of sexual abuse.

Former Cop Charged With Sex Abuse Appears In Court
October 11, 2011

"Recorded calls between a former Colorado Springs police officer accused of sexual abuse and his lawyer were released to the District Attorney by the Sheriff's Office. Tuesday, the Judge ruled the recordings must be returned because conversations between a lawyer and a suspect can't be recorded...."

and

"...Joshua Carrier was a school resource officer and a volunteer wrestling coach at Horace Mann Middle School in the Springs prior to his arrest earlier this year for allegedly buying child *advertiser censored*. Since his arrest, allegations emerged that he sexually assaulted children. A number of boys came forward after the story broke to accuse the officer, who had been with CSPD for seven years, of sexual assault...."

and

"...the judge heard two days of shocking testimony during a pretrial hearing. Victims were not allowed to take the stand, but parents and investigators did. The testimony revealed that one had gone to the office last year, complaining of a stomach ache. There was no nurse on duty, so Carrier was filling in. Carrier told the mother he had checked out her son because he thought he might have an appendicitis. After Carrier was arrested, the child told his mom that Carrier not only checked out his abdomen, but also examined his rectum and genital area...."

and

"....Three parents talked about having to identify their sons in pictures that was allegedly found on Carrier's computer. One mother described the photo, saying her son was naked and bending over to pick up his clothes. The defense argues that accusations against Carrier were only made after he was arrested."

I guess Carrier's Haunted Mansion didn't happen this year.

October 25, 2011

and

"...His defense attorney, Christopher Decker, has said the case is driven by "fear, guilty assumptions and innuendo" — and by families eager to sue after Carrier’s earlier arrest on suspicion of possessing child *advertiser censored* DVDs. And a bit more about a suit:

http://www.csindy.com/colorado/cost-of-trauma-13-million/Content?oid=2394774

Cost of trauma: $13 million
November 10, 2011

"At least $1 million is due to each of 13 boys allegedly molested by former Colorado Springs police officer Joshua Carrier, the boys' attorney says in a letter that calls out city officials and educators by name, including former Police Chief Richard Myers and several Mann Middle School administrators...."

and

"...Carrier, 30, is accused of performing inappropriate physical exams or drug searches of 22 boys (nine of whom aren't represented by Levinson) while serving at Mann as a school resource officer and volunteer. He is charged with 189 counts of sexual assault on a child...."

and

"....the amount of monetary damages should be "no less than one million dollars for each client." That would compensate them for "mental distress, physical injury and other damages to be determined. The school district's insurance coverage caps payments for general and professional liability at $4 million, so any payment above that would come from school funds. The city is self-insured, meaning any payments would come from the city budget. But both are given some degree of immunity from lawsuits, depending on the circumstances of the case...."
