Cannot believe the AMBER Alert was denied for this!!!

Police searching for abducted Tipton girl

Police are currently searching for a 10-year-old girl who was kidnapped near North and Main Streets in Tipton. They say the girl was abducted around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

    [snip]

According to police, they are looking for a silver car. Witnesses say they heard screaming and found the bike in the road as the car sped off.

State Police were asked for an Amber Alert. They declined saying that they lack a definitive car description.

So they KNOW she was kidnapped and still didn't send an amber alert out??? Unbelievable Even if they don't know the car description, getting her description out here could save her life. sad.

I'm amazed. This is so clearly an abduction, and they had eyewitnesses. They could come up with enough of a decscription to issue an alert. I understand not wanting to overuse the system, but this is unbelievable. They need to get that description out there. When someone notices their neighbor or family member, with silver car, acting oddly, or with scratches, or even driving erratically, that description will matter.

This is super scary. I just googled Tipton and it's a really small town. Only about 5,000 people. It's just north of the center of the state. I cannot believe there is not an Amber Alert.

More info there. Seems they might have now issued the Amber alert. It also says there are no parent custody issues, and gives a better description of the area, and what's being done to find this sweet little kid. I hope they bring her home, soon!

Tipton is an hour north of Indianapolis, also an hour West of Muncie (Ball State) and East of Lafayette (Purdue)

It's not super close to any major cities.

I hope they find her soon ... too many of these in Indiana right now

This article says why there was no amber alert :

An Amber Alert hasn't been issued because investigators lack a suspect description and more details about the suspect vehicle. Police have contacted "A Child Is Missing", a group that makes mass-telephone calls about missing children.

I understand their reasoning, but sometimes, exceptions need to be made. AMBER Alerts have been issued for far less than this.

Another article here, but no new info: http://www.theindychannel.com/news/28239500/detail.html

I agree, it doesn't make sense in this case. Obviously there's something wrong ... Amber Alert should be justified.

I live somewhat close to Tipton, if they ask for help I'll make myself available.

The good thing is that's smack in the middle of town so no matter which way they went chances are good that they got caught on camera somewhere. Police know the time and have a vague description of the car as well as its last known direction.

The other article (wish-tv) seems to imply that there is now an Amber alert, but I haven't confirmed that yet.

"Capt. Gordon Tocco of the Tipton Police Department said an official Amber Alert hadn't been issued immediately because descriptive information was limited, though calls had been sent out through the A Child is Missing Alert organization. An Amber Alert requires that there be enough descriptive information to believe the broadcast will help."

In a town of 5,000? I hope they have some cameras...but it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't.
