Not quite sure how I missed Captain Bourque with his hundreds of thousands of child *advertiser censored* images....SHAME on him!! I wonder how he's doing with his pre-trial restrictions?

In one of the comments, someone says they sure hope he doesn't have kids. He does.

His name is David L. Bourque of West Suffield, CT and he's now 51. Who knew there would be so many David Bourques in CT?

So, the judge is supposed to go easy on Bourque because he missed viewing a few of the images? He's probably still sitting there wondering just what he did miss. It really bothers me that pedophiles hold these images in their memory forever, even when led off to prison. Each recalled memory re-victimizes a child, IMO.

Ex-Granby cop pleads guilty to child *advertiser censored* charge

"A former Granby police captain who was caught with more than 26,000 images and videos of child *advertiser censored* on his personal and work computers pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday and faces five to 20 years in prison. David Bourque, 51, of Suffield, pleaded guilty to a single count of receipt and distribution of child *advertiser censored*. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 11...."

Of course Bourque knew this was evil. Of course he knew there are victims. But this raises the question again as to whether some victims of childhood sexual abuse are drawn to look at these vile images in an attempt to "make sense" of their trauma or to desensitize themselves. This theory has been supported by some experts in the field. No excuse at all but something to think about.

In court papers filed Wednesday, Richard Brown, an attorney for former Granby police captain David Bourque, argued for a lighter sentence based on an evaluation by a psychologist that concluded Bourque suffered PTSD, affecting his judgment. My mother was a cop in D.C. for 20 years. Yet, strangely enough, with all she has seen, she doesn't view child *advertiser censored*. What kind of BS excuse is that? If the judge gives him a lenient sentence, I will be incensed. Especially because of the pitiful excuses.

Oh, you are totally correct Belinda. No excuse AT ALL. However, I'm always interested in the motivation behind pedophiles' actions. Fact is that a huge number of pedophiles report childhood abuse. Could there be a link? I don't know.

But being the parent of eight victims, this scares the putty out of me.

We should know about Bourque's sentence shortly.

Former police captain to be sentenced

"A former Granby police captain who pleaded guilty to federal child *advertiser censored* charges is being sentenced today. David Bourque was in court today, and with him was two of [his] daughters, and the biological father to his step-daughter, who says Bourque has turned his life upside down. Bourque showed no emotion, but when his lawyer spoke about how he let down his former wife, two daughters, stepdaughter and his suicide attempt he started to cry.

His lawyer told the judge that Bourque suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder as a long time officer on the accident reconstruction team. Bourque was cooperative with authorities and admitted to downloading images and videos of child *advertiser censored*, about 26,000 images....."

"Former Granby police captain David Bourque asked a federal judge Friday to consider the good Bourque had accomplished over his life before handing down a sentence on child *advertiser censored* charges.

"I am as shocked and disappointed in myself as I know my family, my friends and the communities I served are, Bourque told Judge Alvin Thompson. "I spent 30 years being an example of what is right and honest and then I lost my way. The fact I viewed child *advertiser censored* is beyond my comprehension...."

Bourque was supposedly molested when he was in elementary school. I hadn't seen the statement below. These facts kind of blow the whole "desensitization" theory to my mind.

10-years stinks when you consider he used his LE knowledge to avoid being caught. Obviously, he didn't use it very well, but it was stated that he did use it. He didn't even get the minimum 17 years. Very disappointing.

Abandoned? What did Bourque expect? It's really hard for me to focus on the good this man might have done when I consider the vile crimes he committed...over and over. A more detailed article about the sentencing:

Frankly, I find it sad that he has so many 'suppporters.' I find it sad that his daughter tried to mitigate his sentence and said what a great father he is. I'm sorry but I couldn't do that if one of my family members was caught doing something like this. I just couldn't support them in their quest for a reduced sentence. Maybe I'm just mean, but it disturbs me every time these people bring out all their supporters in a case like this. To me, having it be a family member would make it that much worse, not encourage me to support them.

While I think it's understandable for a child to still love and support their father after a crime like this has been revealed, it's a slap in the face to the victims to herald the good the man has done and to beg for a lighter sentence. I seriously doubt that a single victim could give a flip about this guy's good deeds.

Sorry, but I don't believe good deeds are going to be Bourque's legacy. Evil like this has a tendency to cancel out good works.

I'm sure I would still love my father, if it was me, but I don't think I would be in court supporting him and saying what a great guy he is. He's not a great guy as evidenced by his crimes and conviction. I would be horrified if it were my father. I just don't get this type of response from the grown kids.

His "good deeds" mean nothing. People like this guy perform their good deeds
for a couple of reasons. One is to puff up their own egos. Another is to maintain
their public persona of respectability.

The only difference between these kinds of offenders and the stereotype
lowlife sex offenders is that these people have learned that they can hide
behind a front which allows them to go undetected longer than the average creeper.
