The mysterious death of a multimillionaire found dead in his Fort Lauderdale mansion
Posted on Wednesday, 06.29.11

The last time attorney Michael Vivoli and client Ronald Charles Vinci chatted was about a month ago. Vinci was telling Vivoli about a home he had just purchased — a two-story, million-dollar mansion along Fort Lauderdale’s New River, in the well-to-do Tarpon Bend neighborhood.

Vinci, 70, a self-made multimillionaire from Southern California, wasn’t overly excited, Vivoli remembers. He talked as though he had just scored another good deal, with the money he had made from successful Honda dealerships in Southern California and Nevada.

The pair would not talk again.

Tuesday afternoon, Fort Lauderdale police went to the Tarpon Bend home after a 911 caller reported finding a body inside the mansion at 101 SW Coconut Dr.

Vinci’s body was wrapped in duct tape

geez, was he targeted for robbery or was this a 'hit'?

he probably had a good security system & possibly multiple surveillance cameras - hopefully that will aid the police

Somebody felt they were safe enough or had enough time to wrap him in duct tape.....

Police arrest girlfriend in millionaire's death

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have arrested a woman in connection to the death of a self-made millionaire in his new, multi-million-dollar mansion last week.

Fort Lauderdale Police said, Tuesday, they arrested 56-year-old Catherine Marie Pileggi in connection to the death of 70-year-old Ronald Charles Vinci. According to authorities, Pileggi turned herself in to authorities after she discovered there was a warrant out for her arrest.

A woman appeared outside the Broward County Jail who identified herself as a friend of Pileggi but spoke only under the condition she could retain her anonymity. "I'm so sad for her," the woman said. "I hope she can really hold up because she's suicidal. She doesn't want to live ... I wouldn't be surprised if she really did it, trust me."

Vinci was found dead on June 28 after only recently moving to the area from California. Police have not said how he died. Vinci had made his fortune as an auto magnate on the West Coast and only recently retired.

Police said Vinci was found wrapped in bedding and duct tape inside his new home at 101 Coconut Drive in the elite Tarpon Bend neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale. During several days of processing the crime scene, detectives found several items linking Pileggi to the homicide. "Plastic bags and bed coverings were wrapped around the body when we located it," Fort Lauderdale Police Detective Travis Mandell said

Police: Jilted woman stabbed, shot and beat millionaire to death

Apparently enraged by a potential breakup with a Fort Lauderdale multimillionaire, Catherine Marie Pileggi took deadly revenge, investigators say.

Pileggi, a onetime pilot, also blamed him for the death of her sister years earlier, police said.

Pileggi is accused of shooting Ronald C. Vinci in the head, stabbing him in the chest, slitting his throat, wrapping him in bedding and plastic bags – and then plotting to drop his body in the ocean.

She was held without bond Wednesday.

Catherine Pileggi took the stand on Wednesday to explain to jurors that her abusive relationship led her to murder her millionaire boyfriend of 20-years.

Pileggi, 58, explained that her boyfriend Ronald Vinci, 70, sexually and physically abused her. She is claiming a “battered spouse” form of self-defense in her murder trial.

On the day of his death – June 28th, 2011 – Pileggi said Vinci threatened to kill her and even pointed a loaded gun at her head. She told jurors she was in such fear she soiled herself, and that was when Vinci put the gun down.

Do you know if anyone is tweeting this or will update when a verdict comes in . I see no Deliberations til tomorrow( Wednesday).
