A gingerbread house built by an eccentric artist group in Vienna is to be dismantled after complaints it was a magnet for rats and noisy birds.

Most of the gingerbread bricks used between the bread frame of the house have been eaten, as well as most of the bread tiles.

The house was the brainchild of the "Austrian Guggenheim" movement who wanted to give locals something cheerful to look at.

Now they have agreed to dismantle the house after inspectors said it was a health risk.

Residents in Hietzing, located near Schoenbrunn's imperial palace, a popular destination for tourists, claim that rats and other animals have been attracted by pieces of gingerbread
