Authorities seek help in locating Sharpsburg man
By Elizabeth Melville

The Times-Herald

Authorities are asking for the public's help in locating a Sharpsburg-area man who has been missing for nearly two weeks.

Bobby Allen Pope, 34, was last seen on May 22 when he left to spend the night at a friend's house in Heard County. According to investigators with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office, Pope never arrived at his destination and hasn't been seen or heard from since.

"Clothing and other items found at the scene led us to that time frame," said Yarbrough on Thursday.

Authorities also located a backpack with a few items in it.

The body appears to be that of an adult male. After authorities excavated the site Tuesday, the human remains were sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's crime lab in Atlanta for additional forensic testing.

This week's discovery isn't the only find of human remains in Coweta that the GBI is working to identify.

Authorities are continuing their efforts to identify human remains found in the 900 block of Welcome-to-Arnco Road in April.

A 14-year-old made the gruesome discovery while digging a fire pit about 30 yards beyond the wood line behind the family home. Inside a shallow grave, the teenager found a black trash bag that contained a human skull and other remains.

Authorities believe the remains are evidence of a decades-old homicide.

Yarbrough said recently that the GBI is testing DNA submitted by relatives of a couple of missing persons that meet the criteria in this case.

wow what a random chance to dig a fire pit and discover a body. Someone took some effort to bury the body..... I hope they can find out who the victim was.

... Coweta authorities ... believe they have identified ... human remains found in July off Highway 34 East, but are awaiting final DNA and autopsy tests. That case is not considered a homicide at this time.

... a human skull was found by a surveyor in July 2011.

The skull was in the woods across from Wynn's Pond Road, behind Trinity Fellowship Church. Investigators later found other skeletal bones, a backpack with a few items and other clothing.

The body, that of an adult male, is believed to have been there for about five to six years.

Yarbrough said authorities are awaiting final DNA and autopsy results but do not believe that case is a homicide at this point.

Rest In Peace, Emmitt Luther White. :rose: Blessings to your family and friends.

Is there already a thread for the remains found inside the trash bag in the shallow grave (post #5, article mentions 2 different cases)?
