KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) - The Nativity of Mary is where 11-year-old Blair Lane attended class and where parishioners gathered to pray the rosary for a young life taken much too soon.

KCMO police have spent the past two days trying to track down who's responsible for the death of the Lane, who was shot while celebrating the Fourth of July.

Lane was watching the fireworks from the backyard of her uncle's home Monday night when she was hit in the neck by a stray bullet - an injury that later proved fatal.

Oh how heartbreaking. Blair's mom is a former nurse and thought she was hit by fireworks. That's unimaginable trying to save your own child's life. No until EMT's got there did they know she was shot.

RIP Blair Lane. Please know I'm going to say a rosary for you.

Pretty girl. May her family's grief somehow be lightened just a bit.

Prayers for her family and hope that people will learn that shooting a weapon often has consequences that are not seen.

This little girl seemed like she was so smart and compassionate. It upset her when foster children would come into her family with no socks, so she wanted to start a project called Foster Socks. Her family is now trying to bring everything together to make that happen in her memory. What a beautiful way to honor a little girl who left this earth far too soon.

It sounds like they may charge all four who were shooting the weapon. We will have to wait and see.

Why do people insist on shooting off guns on the 4th of July????

On a side note, this story reminds me of Jackson Atusso from Louisiana.
His Mom (a dr) also had to try to save his life after he was stabbed/cut up. Horrible story. We have a thread here for him.

How horrible for a parent to do all they can and feel like they failed.

Rest in Peace Blair.
