Another day, another family annihilator. Incredibly sad and tragic.

The only good news here is that Oregon has the death penalty.

A beautiful woman. From Tabasha's MS blog:

    http://www.myspace.com/56203281

"...I look at my family. My husband, a mere stranger. How peculiar! The longer together, the less I know him. Who are you? And what am I doing here? My children. Oh so beautiful! Replicas of the foreign face that reflects back at me from the mirrors. Will I ever really know them if I don't even know who I am? I try to read their eyes and only get lost in those haunting memories. I smile at those sweet haunting memories...."

I wonder what the comments about her being called in as a missing person are all about. Possibly Tabasha and her husband had been arguing or she was "stepping out" and her husband confronted her? What ever happened to arguing...screaming...crying...leaving?

Why don't people just pack it up and walk away...instead of destroying lives? Four babies and a vibrant young mother??? My Lord.

It's been said so many times that it seems trite to repeat. This type of thing does not happen in Medford, Oregon. People move here to be safe. It seems that Tabasha is from the Central Valley in California. Many many choose Southern Oregon as it's safe and secure.

Not any more. Not any more.

That snippet was part of a ponderous and longer blog on Tabasha (Tia's) MS page. Here's her FB page:

This might sound odd but I know none of these people. Most of my children are of color and I've always paid attention to people of color in our valley, as there aren't many. Most of this woman's friends are in California. I think she must be from the Bakersfield area. She has a large circle of family and friends. My heart goes out to them tonight.

LE "found" Tabasha and returned her home at 7:45? That's odd. She's an adult. Was she ill or high or confused? Where she was found is adjacent to the courthouse and jail. Some sketchy areas nearby also. Our daughter was trafficked from a house only three blocks from there. But also nice family homes in the area. I cannot imagine the horror for the LEOs who returned her. The fire occurred only 1 1/2 hours later.

"...Police said they received a call at 5:30 a.m. reporting the 30-year-old woman missing. They found her nearby at 10th Street and Oakdale Avenue and returned her to the home at 7:45 a.m., they said. Police Chief Tim George said they were checking to see whether officers had responded to reports of domestic violence at the home..."

I just have to note something. Stepping out is a distinctive NW term. I've used it in So Cal and have been looked out with blank stares.

Oh my....does that mean that a native Californian is actually morphing into an Oregonian? I want to stay a California girl, just one who lives in Oregon. IME, "stepping out" was used in the south as a euphemism for seeing someone else--not necessarily sex. Not that it's of much concern but I did note that Tabasha notes herself as "bi" on MS. I wonder if she'd met someone of interest, recently.

FWIW, I can find nothing on the father. Nothing at all. He must not be from this area and he must not have much web presence. I checked on MS and FB and a number of people with that last name are from Spain.

I'm sure our local papers will have more info in the next few days and I'll update this thread. It's been a long long time since we had a tragedy of this magnitude.

Sometimes I feel so darn jaded. After the shock of reading of the murders wore off, I got to work trying to learn more about Jordan Criado. I could find nothing, absolutely nothing, about the man. It was if he didn't exist. That made me wonder if he might be a RSO. I checked OR Vinelink and he wasn't under community supervision. There's no way to check further in Oregon, unless the person is on the "Predatory List". He wasn't. To get more info, you have to contact State Police by mail and inquire about a particular name or address. Great, huh? Being that so many of the Tabasha's family seemed to be in the Bakersfield area, I looked at CA Vinelink and the CA SOR. Both were off line yesterday for some reason. Then this, this morning:

    http://www.mailtribune.com/apps/pbcs...WS07/107190327

Suspect in 10th Street killings is a sex offender
    July 19, 2011

"The man who police suspect killed his wife and four children Monday in their west Medford home was a convicted child molester in California who served prison time for those crimes more than 20 years ago, court records show. Jordan Adam Criado, 51, was sentenced to 20 years in California state prison after pleading guilty in October 1990 in Sacramento County to eight felony counts of lewd conduct with a child under the age of 14...."

    and

"....Criado was originally charged there in December 1989 with 36 felonies in the case, Sacramento County court records show. It was not immediately clear today how long he served in prison. Criado was arrested in October 2005 in Medford on a warrant issued out of Bakersfield, Calif., where he was wanted on a charge of failing to register as a sex offender, Jackson County court records show...."

    and

"...Criado is suspected of stabbing his wife and four children before setting his west 10th Street house on fire Monday, killing all but himself in the single largest homicide case in Jackson County history...."

    and

"....sources and school records have identified the Criados' eldest children as 7-year-old Elijah and 6-year-old Isaac. Tabasha Paige-Criado's Facebook page also listed her other children as 5-year-old Andrew and 2-year-old Aurora Elizabeth. Jordan Criado was listed in critical condition this morning at Rogue Valley Medical Center...."

If this man was off of supervision, he wouldn't have any restrictions at all. He could have as many children as he wanted and hang out at schools and parks--both within a couple of blocks of the family home. I've got lots of questions. Medford is about 40 miles north of the California border and yet there's no connect with RSOs. People move back and forth across the border with seeming impunity, seeking privacy and a new start. This was a new start??

I keep coming back to the fact that the children's little bodies were not burned. There might be evidence of even more evil. Bless those babies....

Obviously, the Rogue Valley is reeling. This is the largest homicide we've ever experienced and with four children brutally murdered, it's going to take some time to sort out the facts. I want to pose a question, however. Criada was/is a RSO in CA. Why is there no reciprocal sharing of info between states? How far off is a national registry?

The neighborhood where this family lived is teeming with young children. This family had four. Did any authority know or care or have any sort of say in the matter? How were his neighbors to know this? How about the sweet little 13 year old baby-sitter? Did his wife even know? The news reporters can't even determine how long the man served in prison or what his restrictions were.

I've checked CA Vinelink a number of times today, as well as the CA SOR, and there's not a single thing I can find. I've checked the archives for newspapers down in the Central Valley. Nothing. And I'm actively looking. What about the neighbors of this guy? What about the schools where the children attended and where the man most likely showed up? How are they supposed to know to even ask? How many other little children went to play dates in that home?

    Two words....national registry.

Lots of new info coming out. One of the parents worked at Amy's Kitchen, a natural frozen foods plant which relocated to Oregon from CA several years ago. Tabasha Paige-Criado was from the Bakersfield area and served in the Navy. I think that they reason I can't find Criado on any social networking sites is that he was prohibited from using them due to his conviction on child sex crimes. Did Tabasha know of this?

Bakersfield mother mourns family killed in Medford

"....A records check also shows that Jordan Adam Criado was picked up in 2005 in Oregon on an outstanding warrant out of Kern County, charging him with failing to register as a sex offender. He served less than a year in Kern County jail for that infraction...."

So, she must have known. But Criado's PO was OK with him returning to a houseful of children? Or did he not have any sort of PO as he'd done his time? Was it registration only? Oregon has no law about where offenders can live or visit. None. That's all at the discretion of the PO. There doesn't seem to be one.

    http://news.yahoo.com/video-shows-vi...073745962.html

"...Paige-Criado was talking calmly on her cell phone when she came in and bought three packets of fruit-flavored cigar wrappers for 89 cents each, then sat at a table. LG confirmed that the woman in the video was Paige-Criado.

The woman is dressed in a black cap, black sweat shirt, black pants and white running shoes. She appears to be texting on her phone, then looks outside, stands up and smiles broadly before walking out to join police who had been looking for her. Police said she did not appear nervous or frightened in the car or when she got home, where they watched her talking to her husband...."

    and

"...It was not Criado's first marriage: He was married to another woman in California, where court records showed he had been convicted of molesting three children in Sacramento County in 1990. He was arrested in December 1989 and pleaded guilty in August 1990 to eight counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison...."

Oh, my heart goes out to those officers who escorted her home. They must be hurting terribly. I wonder who she was texting and/or calling?

According to a press conference held today by the brother of the murdered woman, the family did know of Criado's past. There are conflicting reports, however, about how the family responded to this news. He said that they have forgiven him. I'm not so sure that Southern Oregonians have, however. Criado is still on a ventilator and not able to answer questions, as of this afternoon. But the autopsy reports are back. I'm not sure what LE means when they say that they want to speak to anyone "involved". Could that possibly be the person on the phone with Tabasha earlier that morning?

Autopsy results for Criado family are in
    July 21, 2011 10:18 PM

MEDFORD, Ore. — On the fourth day of an investigation, family members finally get some answers. Medical Examiners completed the Criado family’s autopsies Thursday afternoon. The results show that 30 year old Tabasha Paige Criado died from multiple stab wounds to the neck and abdomen. The reports also say all four children had Carbon Monoxide poisoning from the fire. In addition, five year old Andrew and six year old Isacc suffered from a stab wound to the neck...."

    and

"...Police are still searching for information and speaking with anyone who may be involved. The only person who has not been questioned is the father and only survivor Jordan Criado. Criado is currently at the Rogue Valley Medical Center in critical condition...."

    and

"...The autopsy results are not official. Police will not know the exact cause of death until Toxicology results are in, which may take weeks to complete...."
