FL - Natalie Belmonte, 43, Pembroke Pines, 16 July 2011

Police continued searching waterways and wetlands near the home of a missing Pembroke Pines real estate agent Tuesday after finding evidence that they say suggests foul play.

43-year-old Natalie Belmonte, a mother of three, was last seen returning home after a party around 2:30 am Sunday. Her 22-year-old son reportedly told police she was gone when he woke up later that morning. Investigators say the son has been cooperating with them.

“He is also the last person to see her, so we are interested in speaking with him some more,” Pembroke Pines Police Capt. Dan Rakofsky said at a news conference Tuesday. He would not disclose anything Belmonte’s son has told them so far.

Rakofsky called the disappearance “suspicious,” adding that evidence discovered in an area dumpster Monday led police to believe foul play had occurred.

Asked about reports that those articles included bloody sheets, Rakofsky refused to identify any of the items taken from the dumpster. He also declined to comment on whether any relevant surveillance video from the Belmonte home exists.

Though police were searching “by land, air and water” Tuesday, Rakofsky said that they had received no specific leads indicating Belmonte may be in a waterway.

According to Rakofsky, police were still “meticulously” searching the house and treating it as a possible crime scene. Investigators are also interviewing Belmonte’s relatives and friends, “especially those who saw her immediately prior to her suspicious disappearance.”

Quintana said the night before she disappeared, Belmonte and her 22-year-old son had gone to a party together.

When they came home, she went to bed but when the son woke up, she wasn't there. When he couldn't find her, he called police, according to the neighbor.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry into her home and her cell phone, purse, personal belongings and vehicle were found at the home.

A home surveillance video recorded on the morning a real estate agent went missing shows someone carrying a large object out of the woman's house and then returning to the home minutes later, several sources close to the investigation said.

The timing of the events in the video is why authorities have centered their search for clues in the disappearance of Natalie Belmonte, 43, around the western Pembroke Pines area. Investigators theorize that the person on the video may have been trying to get rid of evidence, and since that person returned to the home minutes later, they could not have driven very far, the sources said

Police found some evidence related to Belmonte's disappearance inside a trash bin behind the Publix supermarket at 19400 Sheridan St., Rakofsky said.

He declined to identify exactly what was found.

Investigators also are trying to gather information on a maroon Lexus ES 350 sedan that was spotted on 196th Avenue and near the supermarket between 5:15 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. Sunday.

Rakofsky confirmed reports that in 2008, Natalie Belmonte accused G of stealing jewelry from her that was worth as much as $20,000. She pressed charges against her adopted son, and a hearing in the ensuing felony grand theft case is scheduled for this upcoming Sept. 15.

The jewelry dispute did not appear to be connected to the possible homicide, police said Tuesday night.

    Interesting.

They don't say that the video shows someone coming to the home, and then leaving. It shows someone already in the home leaving, and then coming back. Very few reasons that would happen...

That doesn't sound good.........also they are now calling it a homicide...and she wasn't reported missing until 7 pm

After finding suspicious items in a trash bin, authorities are now calling the disappearance of a Pembroke Pines Realtor a likely homicide.

Belmonte, 43, had attended a party the night before, along with her adopted son Gerard Belmonte. He said they came home around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

When he woke up later that day, his mother was gone. He reported her disappearance to Pembroke Pines Police about 7 p.m

Also they're seeking anyone who saw her car near publix on Sheridan St early in the morning. Her car was found at home.

Police say they're shifting their investigation of a Pembroke Pines woman's disappearance from a missing person search to a possible homicide

Pembroke Pines Police, joined by Miramar Police, the Broward Sheriff's Office and members of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spent most of Monday and Tuesday searching for Belmonte, focusing their search on an area on Pines Boulevard west of I-75.

Police located the body in a wooded and marshy area near Northwest 196th Avenue and Taft Street Wednesday morning, according to Pembroke Pines Police Captain Dan Rakofsky.

Rakofsky said police believe it may be the body of Natalie Anne Belmonte, 43, who police have been searching for for the past three days.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO, I was so hoping for a happy ending.....all her neighbors and friends said she was a great lady.......My prayers......

A Monday search of a nearby trash bin at 194th Street and Sheridan Street yielded items that led police to suspect foul play in Belmonte’s disappearance, said Rakofsky. A witness told CBS4 that police at the scene removed plastic bags with bloody sheets in them.

"This case is officially a homicide," Rakofsky said, adding that police are awaiting identification of the body.
The adopted son know something! They better keep a sharp eye on him. Justice for Natalie!

How terribly sad! These things are happening so much in recent years. I just don't understand it. What could be causing people to do such horrible things? It sure looks like the adopted son killed his mother. But why? To avoid the court date for his stealing her jewelry? And why did he do that? Did he need drug money or something? I read that he had committed some previous relatively small crimes also. Is this how he rewards his aunt-become-mother for adopting him and caring for him when his father died? I feel so bad for her other children and all those who loved her.

In my humblest of opinions, I just feel like alcohol and drugs have a BIG part in these kind of homicides. Younger people are so affected. The reports say they had just come from a party together (drinking?) and who knows what transpired afterwards... We shall see

The adopted son of a missing Pembroke Pines real estate agent, who disappeared Sunday, was arrested in connection to the case, police said.

It wasn't immediately clear what charges Gerard Belmonte, 21, faces. Police have scheduled a press conference for 5 p.m.
Looks like her Adopted son was also her Nephew before her brother died:

    http://missingpersonsblog.blogspot.com/

Natalie adopted Gerard after her brother died when Gerard was 9.

Belmonte also has a daughter in college and a son in high school.

Early information is coming in that says that her son had been arrested multiple times, including stealing jewelry last June.
