The Not So Obvious Lessons From The Casey Anthony Trial
Published on July 13, 2011 by Joe Navarro, M.A. in Spycatcher

Enough articles have been written criticizing the result of the Casey Anthony case. I am not here to do that. While cases such as this can be polarizing, they can also be instructive. After following the case, here are some things I thought stood out as significant, but perhaps were not so obvious..."

Virginia Crime Commission Considers 'Caylee's Law'

"I have received about 400 emails on ‘Caylee's Law' and they are all from my district. So it's almost unprecedented," said 32nd District State Senator Janet Howell (R).

The push stems from the highly-publicized case in Florida. Casey Anthony failed to report her daughter Caylee missing for weeks. A jury acquitted her on murder charges but the case prompted a nationwide outcry to change state laws.

"There have been 1.25 million people online who have signed the petition," stated Thomas Cleator with the Virginia State Crime Commission.

Casey Wants Taxpayers To Pay Appeal Costs

Anthony apparently wants to keep her private lawyers for her appeal too, but have taxpayers pay for her legal expenses, as they did for her trial.

And, she's asked for transcripts for seven whole days of court proceedings, plus additional transcripts that could cost thousands more.

"I don't think so. In my opinion, I don't think taxpayers should pay any more for that trial. That's my opinion. I don't think anything should come out of the taxpayers anymore. I think they have paid enough," said Jose Torres, a local taxpayer.

And there are reports that attorney Jose Baez bought Casey a good camera as a present after her acquittal, to take photos of her first moments of freedom to sell along with her story.
