Boise County searching for Meridian couple last seen Friday, both have medical issues

Officials in Boise County are searching for an elderly Meridian couple last seen on Friday.

Charles Rigg, who is 81, and 77-year-old Barbara Rigg were reported missing Saturday when they did not arrive for a family picnic in Boise.

They drive a 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup truck with a matching camper shell. The vehicle has Idaho handicapped plates reading "VNAM." The couple likely has a small white dog with them.

Search and rescue crews have called off its search for a missing Meridian couple. Crews searched by air over the Boise National Forest, but did not find anything Tuesday.

Boise County Undersheriff Dale Rogers says with Boise County being so large, they didn't know where to send ground crews to look. The airplane searched along all major highways and roads in Boise County for any sign of them or their vehicle.

ID - Charles Rigg, 81, and Barbara Rigg, 77, Meridian, 29 Jul 2011

The search continues for a missing elderly couple from Meridian. The pair have not been seen or heard from, since Friday.

Meridian Police and the Boise County Sheriff’s Office say they still have not turned up any leads. The Boise County Sheriff's Office started an air search on Monday, after doing a ground search for the couple on Sunday.

Meanwhile, relatives of the missing couple are trying everything they can to cope and remain hopeful. "Any information would be comforting, than not knowing,” said Relative Deborah Sayers.

All of the relatives say they're worried sick about their parents. Barbara and Charles Rigg of Meridian, were suppose to go to a family BBQ Saturday afternoon, but never showed up.

The couple went missing along with their small white dog named Sassy and their Green 2001 Dodge Dakota. It has a matching camper shell with Idaho Handicap License #VNAM, since Charles was a Vietnam War Veteran. "We're hoping that somebody identifies the vehicle, identifies that license plate and contacts us with a good location,” said Tracy Basterrechea, Meridian Police Deputy Chief.

In the article it says that LE is checking out a forest area because the Riggs like to go there, but if they were on their way to a BBQ, why would they stop at the forest? Was it on the way? Did they have a history of driving through this forest on their way to whoever was hosting the BBQ's house?

No, the forest wouldn't be on the way to anywhere in Boise. Also, Meridian and Boise are pretty much the same city. Well, they're not. But they just run together. From where I lived in Meridian two years ago, I could be in Boise in less than 5 minutes.

This article (http://www.dailyjournal.net/view/sto...ridian-Couple/) says they did have a history of going to the Banner Ridge area. But that is about an hour outside of Boise.

    Searching for Barbara and Charles

Dozens of volunteer searchers have turned up nothing, and local detectives have little to go on.

Family members say in the search for 81-year-old Charles Rigg and 77-year-old Barbara Rigg from Meridian, hope is still plentiful, but time is running out.

    [snip]

Deborah Sayers says her father and mother are fiercely independent, and loved to go for short drives near Idaho City and the Lowman area.

    [snip]

However, the couple reportedly only carries cash, and deputies say their cell-phone appears to be turned-off.

That's about 80 miles north of Boise. Still in the Boise National Forest, but on a main (yet extremely windy) highway.

Hopefully the sighting is correct and they are okay.

I hope so too. One of their daughter-in-laws belongs to another message board/forum that I belong to and she posted about them today. She seemed to be thrilled that there was a sighting and now they have at least something to go on-- an area to start at. I gave her the link to this thread and hope she has time to join. I told her how great and helpful everyone here is.
